new year
As I watch the countdown to 2010  on TV from Times Square in New York City with 34 degrees with Ryan Seacrest, host for Dick Clark, who has been bring in new years for the past 37 years. I want to wish all my friends here at Active Rain that I met for the first time late last January a new year filled with joy, happiness, good health and great success in your businesses. It has been a fabulous year of meeting and learning and sharing ideas and stories with those who love this networking community.
I want to remind those who may not realize that this New Year's eve is a momentous night as we sing

“Auld Lang Syne” let us celebrate a blue moon, the rare second full moon in a this December month , this New Year’s Eve. There is also a partial lunar eclipse, but it may be visible . The last time a blue moon coincided with New Year’s Eve was in 1990. The next such event will happen in 2028.

As for the astronomy of it all, the blue moon has nothing to do with the color of the moon. “The fact that there are two full moons in a month happens because the lunar month is shorter than the calendar month,” said Steve Pompea, manager of science education at the National Optical Astronomical Observatory in Tucson, Arizona. In fact, the blue moon “used to be the fourth full moon in a season,” said Ron Burk, president of the Astronomical Society of Northern New England. But then Sky & Telescope magazine “changed the interpretation,” in 1946, through what is believed to be a misinterpretation of a Farmer’s Almanac treatise on the subject. The blue moon then became “the second full moon in a month.”

GEORGE: Doesn't Dick Clark look amazing for his age and I respect him for coming out each year to wish us a HAPPY NEW YEAR, even after his stroke. I grew up dancing in front of the TV with his American Bandstand. What memories and crushes I had back then with the regulars and the performers. I think I have watched him for many of those 37 years, too.
