Flat roofs are like flat top haircuts - Rare for a reason!

There are some things in life you just have to experience to learn.   Sometimes the classroom experience is just not as effective.  Such is the case when it comes to owning a home, house, condo or whatever!

Like many of my posts this one is written slightly mostly tongue in cheek, sarcastic or whatever!

Over the course of 30 years or so I have learned that:

  • You are the landlord…got to fix it yourself.
  • All roofs eventually leak.
  • Never buy a home in a new subdivision if you may sell before they finish building.
  • You can not control who buys the house next door.
  • Your interest in property taxes will increase.
  • You will always need a garage on car stall size larger.
  • If it was a previously owned home the previous owner’s taste was awful.
  • Older neighbors die and young families with loud kids always move in.
  • Everything works fine until the warranty expires.
  • Everything works fine for about a month after you close on the house.
  • The old adage buyers are liars and sellers too is mostly true.
  • If there is a homeowner association there will always be that one person who is the association “rat” reporting you because of “weeds” in your flower beds.
  • Reserve your Saturdays for lawn work and trips to Lowe's or Home Depot!
  • Mortgage companies don’t really give a hoot about youonly your payment.
  • Flat roofs are like flat top haircuts – rare for a good reason!
  • If your mortgage lender will not talk with you anymore or changed professions they know.

There is more but I think it is much more exciting to experience it as a homeowner yourself, so if you are in Brevard County Florida and need a real estate agent, call me or send me an email.

Home ownership is great. It is like life…some good, some bad but never a dull moment!

Gary thanks for spelling it all out for us. Some how I also feel better when some one else points out the same things I have been saying.

OK. I was chuckling and enjoying until I got to the part about the old people dying, and new people with loud children buying those homes >.<  (not a fan of small children!!!)

We're surrounded by old people... I like living around old people! They're so nice and quiet, and they keep their yards immaculate! Sure my hubby has to help a couple of widows. But he doesn't mind. The bible actually tells us to do that. And it's FAR better than noisy little brats kids leaving toys laying around, or being in the street when I'm in a hurry, or Heaven forbid... stepping foot in my yard. Grrrr... (Oh yeah. I'm gonna be so pleasant when I get old. LOL) There's a reason I only had one child! And she's now in college... YAY! My kid rocks! And I made her obey when she was growing up. Today's parents have no clue how to do that! I may actually like their little brats kids, if they were quiet and polite. (The way I had to be when I was a child!)

Thank God we live in a community with MAJOR Deed Restrictions! But people with young children seem to be the ones who always need the warning letters, and even get fines, for violating the HOA rules. *sigh* And that's a pain too, since my hubby is the HOA president! (Better him than me... Don't know how tactful I'd be with repeat offenders.)

This lovely, pleasant comment is the courtesy of my alter ego, with major small children issues  o.O

So many of those are so true. I particularly like the one about buying in a new subdivision before they are finished building.

Happy New Year!

The RIGHT CHARLOTTE REALTOR!

Hi Gary!  I love your list!  I think that the seller's taste being awful to the buyers is the one that's hit me alot lately with my buyers--I often hear, "What WERE they thinking?!"

I have to say, I have a lender who just GETS it--his follow-up service is impeccable and he gets referrals from his past clients because of it!  If only more of them would GET it!!

Have a great week...

Debe - Thanks. If you have a lender who gets it, then you are very lucky. Thanks again.
