"The technological equivalent of kryptonite in its walls: chicken wire. Metal wiring inside old plaster walls blocks wireless signals" This is a big problem in many areas, particularly older cities and towns. One may have to stand on their roof to use their iPhone! I've known people who have run into this problem, a signal booster will sometimes work.  If not they have to connect directly with an ethernet cable.
