Are you SURE you want to have a FEATURED post on Active Rain???
It has been about a month now since there was a lot of talk about individuals wanting to have featured posts and the responses to those bloggers desirous of a featured post. I can understand the reasons why AR members would want to be featured on Active Rain: wider internet exposure, increased prestige and standing among AR members, recognition for creativity, cogency of material, or journalistic excellence! There is some great writing talent among AR members!
COULD I PLEASE DISCUSS A FEW THOUGHTS WHY IT MIGHT NOT BE A GOOD IDEA TO HAVE A FEATURED POST ON ACTIVE RAIN?
As an example, if I ever had a featured post, or went public with my blogs I could see the town marshal in Red Feather Lakes, Colorado(most likely a client of MARY DOUGLAS') looking for real estate in Northern Colorado and recognizing my face from all the "Google Juice" created by an Active Rain blog!
I could just hear the officer of the law exclaim, while managing not to choke on his donut or inhale his coffee:
"Isn't that the Bruce Walter who busted out of the Silverton jail back in '87 and who has been on the lam of the law since???"
THANKS ACTIVE RAIN-BUT NO THANKS!

WHY WOULD I WANT TO HAVE FEATURED POSTS AND GET INCREASED BUSINESS WHEN I JUST RETIRED FROM TEACHING AFTER 31 YEARS IN THE CLASSROOM?
I have not played much golf since graduating from college in the mid-70's. I want to take up the game of golf again, and not be tied down to returning comments on featured posts!
I AM VERY CONTENT TO READ, LEARN, AND ENJOY THE BLOGS OF OTHER INDIVIDUALS
ON ACTIVE RAIN!
I do not leave "hit and run" comments anymore, and I put my energy into visiting other bloggers' sites.
I have a 10-1 ratio of commenting points verses blogging points. President Lincoln said it best to a second rate general coveting fame in the Civil War: "If you can't skin(blog); then hold a leg(comment)."
Blogging takes too much work and I don't want it to take away from my desire to take up fishing again.
Active Rain has a lot to offer its members, and I cherish MOST the friendships that I have started to develop and the knowledge that I have acquired since joining in September.
Those of you who aspire to be featured writers take your time and learn from the accomplished bloggers! Interact with those who comment on your posts, and seek out and comment on the wide variety of posts offered each day on Active Rain!
Besides if you are a constant featured writer think of all those comments you will have to make in reply!
That makes it very hard to get back to LAKE ERIE and commune with those nine pound plus walleye!

I like to comment and react to the great writing of our Active Rain members!!!!!!!
I think I could make more effective comments if I had more time to think on the lake or on the golf course!
Be careful what you wish for, and in the meantime just kick back and write an AR post every now and then and let someone have to respond back to all those comments when they have a featured post!
