Find Your Passion and Leap!

Everyone knows that a cat doesn't like to get its paws wet, so it will LEAP great distances to avoid water in order to get to their intended destination. Real estate is not an industry for testing the waters. You either make the commitment by Jumping In! or you don't.

Mary Yonker's post http://activerain.com/blogsview/1407685/real-estate-career-part-time-vs-full-time-inspired me to write this post. (Thank you Mary.) She discussed training, time commitments, schedules, family support and I must agree that in order to become a successful real estate agent, you must make a full time commitment.

I started out part-time but soon followed these steps:

  • Set a date to go full-time
  • Put several months salary aside
  • Interviewed with several brokerages
  • Took classes and attended seminars
  • Practiced scripts with fellow agents
  • Created a WOW! listing presentation
  • Jumped in Full Time!

If you are a part-time agent, you are never able to fully commit yourself to your clients or to the industry due to other factors. It's your choice...You either make the committment by Jumping In! or you don't.

Tom, People think we make an easy buck the moment we receive our license. If only more people knew how difficult it is, they'd have more respect for our industry. Maybe?

Oh relax, it's not healthy to take things so seriously. Real Estate business can be fun and done full or part time. It depends what kind of money you want to make and how well you can handle other commitments. I am running 3 businesses at the same time and meet daily real estate challenges without a hitch. My secret? My two other businesses are on line.

I agree that most if not all agents should be full time. That way everyone would answer their phones.

Hi Wanda,  I whole-heartedly agree, one cannot fly from Chicago to New York by getting partially onboard.  I always think back to history.  When Hannibal had unloaded his troops and elephants and had started ahead to cross the Alps, his army turned and looked behind them and saw their ships burning.  Hannibal had ordered the ships burned so there was no retreat.  It was either victory or defeat.  He won!

I have always believed full time is the best approach and to have plan as to how you are going to go about it. Actually, I have had sellers ask me if I am a full time agent - it's definitely a big marketing point with them.

Caring expertise...knowledge for you!

I agree!    This is an information business, and unless one is in it "full time", then one is always out of the loop, thus not giving good advice to clients.

Absolutely.  I also started part-time, and the economies of scale in total focus are incredible.  Thanks for this.
