Do you want a Full Time or a Part Time Real Estate agent?  That is the question?  Read Wanda's well written post.

Find Your Passion and Leap!

Everyone knows that a cat doesn't like to get its paws wet, so it will LEAP great distances to avoid water in order to get to their intended destination. Real estate is not an industry for testing the waters. You either make the commitment by Jumping In! or you don't.

Mary Yonker's post http://activerain.com/blogsview/1407685/real-estate-career-part-time-vs-full-time-inspired me to write this post. (Thank you Mary.) She discussed training, time commitments, schedules, family support and I must agree that in order to become a successful real estate agent, you must make a full time commitment.

I started out part-time but soon followed these steps:

  • Set a date to go full-time
  • Put several months salary aside
  • Interviewed with several brokerages
  • Took classes and attended seminars
  • Practiced scripts with fellow agents
  • Created a WOW! listing presentation
  • Jumped in Full Time!

If you are a part-time agent, you are never able to fully commit yourself to your clients or to the industry due to other factors. It's your choice...You either make the committment by Jumping In! or you don't.

Mary....I can't imagine using a part time agent to sell my property......But it happens all the time. Would you use a part time doctor to operate on you? I know it sounds silly but it's true!

Rob--Good point.  Full time agents use that point against part time agents when they are competing for  clients.  Happy New Year!

Mary, just coming into real estate full-time a few months ago, I can tell you it is not easy to adjust. Gone the nice dependable bi-weekly paychecks. What really scares people coming into real estate in the beginning is that it takes time before they get their first sale sometimes not until their 8th or 12th month working.

I agree about full-time and am even doing overtime :) (like 80+ hours/week).

Song--I can't agree with you more.  I like your original description 'even doing overtime.'  Yes, many, many hours.  Thanks for visiting.

It is hard to make ends meet for a lot of agents right now. However it just means you spend more time doing something proactive to get the business right?

Sharon--That is the right attitude.  We all know it takes effort to find business aka prospecting.  There are lots of good prospecting tips on AR.
