A bit about me and why I've decided to write a guide for new agents
When I started out in the real estate business two years ago (almost exactly to this date), I was completely confused as to what my job really was and how I was to pick up clients and close transactions. The fact that I was starting out in real estate during the worst economic recession of my lifetime did not help the leads roll in either. What I did know from the beginning was that I wanted to be a full time agent and I did not want to have to be a part time agent for 10 years in order to get there. I’ve put two full years into the business, and have worked 60 to 80 hours a week in both Real Estate and my part-time, social work job. I have closed 9 transaction sides in 2009 and finally, after much trial and error, becoming a full time agent is looking like a realistic goal that I should be able to accomplish by the end of 2010.
As a new agent, I sought out information on the internet and through agents in my office, constantly looking for some kind of guidance or a “cookie-cutter” formula for making it in Real Estate. What I found in my office was a lot of agents who did not want to share their “secrets”, for fear that the new guy would steal all of their business. What I found on the internet was a lot of agents who, although they were doing well and attempted to be helpful, were not the type to have categorized the lessons they had learned into something that was comprehendible to a brand new agent. And that’s why I have decided to write this.
This article will be my attempt at creating the “cookie-cutter” guide for new agents that I was so desperately in search of. It may not give you detailed, step-by-step daily routines, but it will tell you where to find information and how to start pulling in leads on a regular basis. I’ve only just begun to write this guide, but I have a feeling that it will be posted in parts so if this subject interests you, please keep an eye on my blog.
