A Most Unusual Christmas At The White House

By

We all heard that the Obama's did not want the traditional nativity scene displayed at the White House.

                  The Obama's wanted a non-religious celebration.

18th Century Nativity

The Nativity has been a fixture for every Christmas since it was donated to the White House.

It is a beautiful historic 18th century Italian Crésche.

Obama wants to be a Man For All Seasons.

Devoid of any religious affiliation.

No flavor selection like Chocolate, Vanilla or Mint Chip.

No celebration that might offend some special interest group.

The oh so politically correct President Obama.

When did a President occupy the White House who was afraid to announce that they had a religious conviction?

  • While Reagan was not a regular church goer, he never failed to speak of his reverence for God.  When he died his son Michael said "the last face he saw was Nancy, and the first face he saw when he died was the face of God.

Is it now necessary for our President to conceal his religious convictions?    If he is an atheist, so be it.  Have the strength of your convictions to admit it.  If you are a Christian, Jew, Hindu or Muslim then proclaim it.

  • Christmas is one of the most important holidays that Christian Americans celebrate in this country. When Obama threw the switch on the National Christmas tree his profound statement was "Hey, it works".  A Merry Christmas to all would have been nice.

If you have ever been to the White House at Christmas, which I have had the pleasure to do under the Clinton administration, there are trees in every room.

  • Some have themes and others do not.  The festive decorations are breath taking and a sight to behold.  I'm not sure what the Obama White House looked like since the focus was on remaining neutral.

One of the White House Christmas Trees was far from neutral and was adorned with some very interesting ornaments.

  • One ball with the picture of Chairman Mao

  • One with a picture of Mount Rushmore with none other than Obama added.

Seems it is politically correct to have a Christmas ball adorning your tree with the picture of a Communist who murdered millions of his countrymen.

The naive girl in me wants to believe this is not true.

The mature woman I have become is disgusted.

Where's the Hitler ornament?

The guy sits down and listens to a racist pastor for 20 years and doesn't go to church now?  These "churches" are more of a social thing for many im sure.

Bonnie,

What a shame...I heard about the nativity scene, but not the ornament.  Why would you put that on a tree, unless it's a themed tree about dictators and contraversial figures??

I live in the area, so we went down to see the National Christmas Tree during the season. The tree was beautiful. What surprised Julie and I was how the National Mall was nearly devoid of Christmas lights. We wondered who made that decision.

Melissa, I was shocked.  Evidently it was on the news at the time and I missed it.  Falls right in line with the speech that was given by Anita Dunn that two of her favorite philoshpers were Mother Teresa and Mao.

What exactly does this White House hold dear?

Larry,  Maybe they are actually more than social with their teachings.  Like the radical Mosques.

Michael - might be, but the ornament with Obama added to Mount Rushmore was on the same tree.

Will, You and I actually live about 40 miles apart. I live in Fredericksburg.

They took great pains this year to do the least amount possible.  I find the display of these ornaments in the House of the People to be offensive.

If the Mao ornament is true we are more trouble than I even imagined.

Kevin,  It's true.  Look at the video. It's one thing to have a Barbie ornament.  It's quite another to have a Chairman Mao Ornament.  I also find it distasteful to have an ornament with your likeness carved into Mount Rushmore.  How egotistical can you get?

It was also true that staff at the White House protested about the Nativity being displayed. It was only under pressure that the Obama's agreed.

Obama's actions with regard to our religious and national holiday make me question whether he is the Christan he portrays himself to be.

Since we are largely a Christan nation, and our federal government enjoys paid leave for the holiday, then the house of the People should reflect the values of the people it serves.  Obama is simply a guest in OUR house.  He gets free room and board with the job.  He has no ownership or entitlement.

If he wants to have a Tree in his private rooms decorated with coal - that's his business.  Not on display in OUR White House.

Alice,  I'm into all decorating themes that are appropriate.  Heck they could put their underwear on the tree for all I care = but not in the public rooms. These people are so over their heads.

Bonnie, I look forward to Master Terrorist Osama's and Chairman Fidel's ornaments for the coming Christmas at the WH. Perhaps they can throw in the Reverend Wright's ornament there too--they will be oh so sweet!

Yolanda,  I'm not sure where the original photos came from.  Perhaps the photographer only had accesss to one side of the tree.  They may not have seen all the commemorative ornaments.
