Home Energy Saving Tips for WinterSave Money on your Energy Bills!

Winter’s cold and drafty weather brings higher energy costs.  These tips from Home Energy Solutions of the Triad, LLC will help you stay warm and cut your energy bills.

Save More with a Home Energy Audit

For more significant savings, a home energy audit will uncover specific areas of energy loss in your home using state-of-the-art equipment, and provide solutions.  For more information or to book a home energy audit, please visit www.HomeEnergyTeam.com or call us at 1-800-724-4841.

Thermostat

Set your thermostat to 68 degrees.  You'll save up to 5% on heating costs for every degree you lower your heat (within the 60-degree to 70-degree range).

Add an extra blanket on the bed and turn down the heat at night.  You’ll stay warm and you may even sleep better!

Replace your old thermostat with a programmable electronic one, so you won’t need to remember to turn down the heat at night.

Furnace

Have your furnace serviced for regular maintenance.  A clean, lubricated and properly adjusted furnace will save up to 5 percent of heating costs.

Clean or replace your furnace filters once a month.  Dirty filters restrict air flow, which increases its energy usage.

Holiday Time

Turn off your tree lights and other holiday lights at night and when you’re away.  You’ll save energy, and it’s recommended for safety.

Use LED bulbs for your holiday lights and decorations.  They use far less energy.

Lower the thermostat if you’re spending the day cooking or baking, or if you’re expecting a large group of people.

Fireplace

When the fireplace is not in use, make sure the damper is closed.  Otherwise, up to 8 percent of your home’s heated air will escape through the chimney.

It's best not to use traditional fireplaces because they pull heated air out of the house through the chimney.

If you don’t use your fireplace, consider blocking off the chimney with insulation to prevent air leaks through the damper.

To save even more on your energy bills, schedule a home energy audit.  Please visit:

Considering 2/3 of the country is in a deep freeze, this seems like a very timely post.
