One of the great events that come to Hawaii each year is the Transpacific Race. The race includes sailing yachts of various classes that sail from California to Honolulu. The starting line is near Point Fermin, California, leaving Santa Catalina Island to port. The finish line is near Diamond Head, Oahu, Hawaii. Prizes to be awarded by the Governor of Hawaii.
The first of the Yachts start their crossing tomorrow July 9, 2007. For the next few days different classes will stagger their starts with the last group leaving on July 15th.
Following the crossing a couple of Hawaii yacht clubs; the Nawiliwili Yacht Club and Ko Olina Resort & Marina are teaming up to hold a Kauai Channel Race on August 3, 2007. A race poster is available in PDF Format.
The TRANSPAC 07 will be covered on Active rain from both sides of the Pacific Ocean.
Laurie Manny will be updated us from the start line and I will be catching it from the finish line.
Stay tuned for updates as the race progresses.
