Bellingham summers are magnificent.  Both tourists and locals love the town's weather, activities, and exciting energy. Fun, weekly opportunities abound during the gorgeous Bellingham summer.

Nearly every Thursday, for example, one hundred passengers pile onto a tour boat for the Bellingham Bay History Cruise.   The tour is guided by a curator from the Whatcom Museum of History and Art; the cruise's ongoing popularity suggests that the guide is not only knowledgeable, but also entertaining.   (Yes, Bellingham even has entertaining curators.)  In addition to learning local history, passengers get to see an incredible sunset, harbor seals, and the city from an exciting new perspective.

The Fairhaven Outdoor Cinema is unique event.  Every Saturday, moviegoers take advantage of the Bellingham summer weather and enjoy a film on the Village Green.  Before the movie even begins, families, couples, and groups of friends pack the lawn to take advantage of the pre-film entertainment, usually local musicians.   (The movie is free, but the Fairhaven Association is happy to accept donations so they can continue to fill Bellingham summers with exciting events.)

On Saturday mornings, some neighborhoods may seem strangely quiet.  This is because almost everyone in town is at the Farmers Market!   Every week, Market Square is bustling with people of every age and background.  Some stock up on the freshest local produce, while others check out up-and-coming artists.   Chefs step out of their hot kitchens into the fresh Bellingham summer air to perform demonstrations, and non-profit organizations advertise their events.   Weekend workers aren't out of luck; on Wednesday afternoons, the Farmers Market moves to the Village Green in Fairhaven.  Attending the Farmers Market is experience the Bellingham summer at its finest.

Bellingham summers are great for theater lovers.  Every year, Western Washington University's Summer Stock hosts over thirty nights of three big-name plays.   In 2007, for example, audiences can choose from The King and I, The Tempest, or Alice in Wonderland.  Held in several different venues, each play has a feeling all its own.

Sports also thrive during the lovely Bellingham summers.  Baseball enthusiasts and novices alike frequently attend the Bellingham Bells' games.   The Bells are a semi-pro team that competes in the Pacific Metro League.  Fans love the excitement of the game, and even more enjoy seeing (and predicting) future baseball stars before they are even playing Major League Baseball.   To many, summers are purely about baseball; for local residents, Bellingham summers are purely about the Bells.

Visitors come from around the country (and Canada) to take advantage of the region's many outdoor activities during the shining Bellingham summers.   Miles of hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding trails just within the city limits make Bellingham a popular spot.  Some residents make use of local trails throughout the entire year, and take advantage of the Bellingham summers to travel further from the city.  From climbing Mt. Baker to kayaking the San Juan Islands, summer is the best time of year for nature enthusiasts.

Bellingham summers provide unforgettable experience after unforgettable experience.  Be sure to make time for all that the city offers and visit the Bellingham City Guide!!

Baseball in Bellingham was more fan back in the day when Bellingham had the Mariner's single A rookie team.  Players the likes of Ken Griffey Jr. and Edgar Martinez played here.
