Are You An "Honorable" Person/REALTOR®?

Real Estate Agent with Florida Property Experts
Lisa Hill's Real Estate Blog: Being an Honorable REALTOR®

This little post is the result of 2 other posts. The first is My Rant Post from yesterday or to be more precise... some of the comments left on it! And the second is based on a post I just read, by Richard Weisser called "I had a bad day today, because someone made a promise that they couldn’t keep". Neither of those posts would be the exact reason for me to write this one, but after some thought, this is where I landed.

I'm going to give you a word, and I'd like to hear your thoughts on it. The word is "Honorable".

  • When you hear the word "honorable", what other words, traits, or characteristics come to mind?
  •  What does the word "honorable" mean to you?
  • Is it a word that you would consider important in your own list of character traits?
  • Do you strive to be honorable?

Quite frankly, several other words come to mind for me, when I hear the word "honorable", and one of them is directly related to being a REALTOR®. Unfortunately, it seems not many people care about some of the traits that I personally consider to be the most important qualities a person should have.

So how do you feel about "honor". Feel free to elaborate and take this in any direction your mind goes. I'm very interested in the word association that comes to YOU when you hear the words "honor" or "honorable". This post may determine whether or not I bring out another post I currently have sitting in Draft mode right now.  ;-)

It's important to work with the best of the best.  The cream rises to the top and their honor shines forth.

Yes, I am an "honorable" Realtor and person. I do not make promises that I can't keep. I adhere to the Realtors Code Of Ethics and while I am not going to define "honorable", I feel that like P.C. Richards ads- "Honesty, integrity and reliability" are the most important traits you can have in both business and in life.

First things first, we don't fall under NAR here in Manhattan so we are not "realtors" therefore we couldn't be honorable realtors.  There are a couple of companies that do or did, but the majority of agents here in the city don't have anything do with NAR and therefore being realtors.

Honorable is being true to your word and your responsibilities. I think honorable also includes being worthy of the honor of others as well. We all have our own meanings honor among thieves.

The first thought that comes to mind when I think about being honorable - is to make a choice to act fair in any given situation even if that means that I am not the one who gains anything.

I read your post for today, but have not read your "rant" yet.  =)  I'll go do that now.  Hope you are well.  =)

Thank you all for your insightful responses. Honor seems to be one of those words that has different meaning for each person. It's interesting to see how we each process and come to our conclusions on the definition and it's implications =)
