Augmented Reality, Point and identify in real time - Oh Really?!!

By
Real Estate Agent

Augmented Reality is direct or indirect view of the real world in real time.  In the Augment Reality list of things to come, a company is coming up with new technology  where you can point your smart phone and identity a person or a familiar face that you know but can't come up with their name.  To quote REALTOR magazine "You may someday be able to find out without resorting to, Don't I know you?"

Now I'm all for new technology but, does this raise a question or questions in your mind?  Questions like:

  • green question marksWill Identity thieves be able to ascertain information on a potential victim by using this device?
  • Could this lead to stalking someone?
  • What kind of information will they have access too?

Dee, that could be a scary scenario, inevitably some type of "cloaking" software would become available to discourage perpetrators and maintain anonymity.  Thanks!

Give technology another five years, and there will be so much information floating around that anyone could do anything with it. It will all be for the public good and safety.

Happy New Year!

Kevin,
You said: "inevitably some type of "cloaking" software would become available"...  Would this be after the fact, it maybe too late then, the damage is already done.

Jim,
It's already floating around, and people are using it —identity theft, what is one more tool to cause public harm!

With every advance we tend to give away alittle of our person. Scary what the future holds in this world

Scott,
We need to hold on a light tighter or we will lose our hold identity and there will be nothing mysterious about us, or no fun in getting to know a person when you can whip out one of these gizmos.

Sounds good when you are having a "Senior" moment, but I don't think I like the sound of that!

Melinda,
I know as we get older we forget things, but we should try to recall them instead of relying on a gadget to help us think.
The technology we have now such as car navigators, electronic organizers and the like is causing young adults to lose or diminish their thinking ability.  You know what they say "use it, or lose it"

Dee, the more information that is available to the general public, the more of  a chance that something is going to happen.

Kevin,
AR technology is being integrated into our world.  It can be found in games, toys, phones, and whatever scientist can think of next.
