Recently I have written several blog articles on the impact of Proposition 13 that was passed by California voters back in 1978.
I have written about the origins of the voter mandated reduction of real estate assessed value and a couple of articles on how Californians are able to reduce assessed values when they are too high with this recent article and this one I first wrote back in 2006.
I have even re-blogged what other members of ActiveRain have had to say on the topic when Adam Brett explained how taxes may actually go backwards next year.
What is of concern to me though is that there is a real movement in Sacramento to strip away the benefits of Proposition 13 that I just published with the blog, California Prop 13 is Under Attack. In this article I provide independent third party information debunking the claims of the opponents and even provide a link to an online petition to keep Prop 13 intact - just the way the voters approved it nearly 32 years ago.
In researching this topic I found old news coverage that actually was filmed on the eve of the election and then a follow-up several months later. For those of you born since this important legislation became the law of the land, the answer is yes - we really did watch black and white Television back in the old days; and no, this footage has not been preserved on someones TiVo or even VHS - neither had been invented yet.
