Emotionally Detaching from your house during a sale.

Did you know one of the biggest things that make selling a home hard is your emotional attachment! Everyone has it and everyone's level of attachement is varied. When a buyer comes into a home for sale and they see the heights of the kids growing up marked on the wall, the mural painted in the kids bedroom, family photo's all around and more it makes it VERY hard for those buyers to want to "Take" that connection away from you. The greatest thing you can do for a fast effective sale of your home is to emotionally detach from it.

Remove all visual stimlus of what that home means to you, the paited mural (yes it's beautiful but you are the only one who will value it's meaning) remove family photo's, fix the notches carved into the wall of the growing kids heights. This will allow buyers to see the home as a product, something that they are going to buy!

This is also a SAFETY step as well! Many families that have children have photo's of them around the house, their name written out in some sort of artwork above there bed and the location of the home you are walking through. Think about it, a complete stranger is walking in your home for sale viewing your family pictures and kids and now they know your kids names! this is not a good mix. BE SAFE! the easiest thing to do is remove those simple items of photo's and artwork to leave those stragners in the dark about your family!!

Kristy--You are so right.  I've actually recommended a client remove a piece of door trim that had their children's heights recorded through the years and replace it.  For just a few dollars they were able to retain their keepsake and potential buyers never even knew it existed!
