Color suggestion to paint kitchen cabinets - HELP!

By

My client cannot afford to replace the kitchen cabinets, so we'll have to settle for painting them.  Here's the plan:

  • Paint walls cafe-au-lait
  • Install Stainless Steel appliances
  • new neutral countertops and backsplash
  • replace vinyl floor with neutral tile
  • Remove scalloped accent panel from above fridge and sink (I'll might cut the scallops off and replace it)

The client wants cream paint for the cabinets, but I've seen alot of creams that look too yellow.  Does anyone suggest a color for the cabinets in a cream, off white or beige?  I'll be using Sherwin Williams Semi-Gloss.

Here is the slideshow which includes the kitchen...it needs alot work!

Thanks for looking!

Don't have a cream color....but if you decide to go dark I suggest...Oxford Brown by Kelly Moore (Sherwin Williams can match).  Also...hope you can also change out the lighting!

The oxford brown is nice!  It's very similar to a SW brown (forgot the name) that I just used in a 1985 pink and blue wallpapered half bath with huge frameless mirror plastered to the wall (you get the picture).  Here is a photo of the cabinet:

It was dark wood with shiny brass handles.  The countertop was cream formica with cream sink and pitted chrome faucet...pathetic!  All of the lighting, TP holder and towel ring have been changed out to oil-rubbed bronze.  I'm waiting for the sidesplash to come in and unfortunately the floor is staying but temporarily.

I use Benjamin Moore's Marscapone for millwork.  It's a bone colour - Pottery Barn uses it a lot.  As Kathy says, Sherwin Wm can match this.  This is such a dark, dingy kitchen that I think it needs something to lighten it.  I would also change up the handles with simple brushed nickel round knobs.  Sure hope there's hardwood under those carpets, too.  The living room has potential.  Can't wait to see the "after" shots.  Good luck.

Oh Kathy, I forgot to say that every light fixture in the house is getting replaced!

Sally, I think this is the color I'm looking for...it seems so calming!  The color of the countertop is called Travertine and this bone color will look great.  The floor is going to be a med-dark cherry laminate.  I'm hoping the cabinets and backsplash will brighten the kitchen up enough to help the cherry floor stand out, but not dark and depressing.

Thanks for your ideas!

Good luck with this big project!  I like to Marscapone that Sally recommended, that should brighten up the kitchen.  FYI, Target sells multi-packs of knobs (which can really add up if you need a lot) and Home Depot even has 50 packs of knobs.

Can't wait to see the after pictures!
