Everyone I talk to and read, be they in Port Angeles where I live or on Facebook or ActiveRain, everyone seems excited about 2010. I hear people talk about the energy and the sense of expectation.
Wow. That means we will have a great year. Or at least first quarter.
The market is, for the most part, between your ears. If agents are this upbeat, they cannot help but communicate that to everyone around them. There are solid reasons to believe that "this is a great time to buy" but these reasons were aound in the last quarter of 2009.
What's different is that we turned a calendar page and turned our backs on that awful, discouraging, horrible 2009. And in the turning we became excited and encouraged and optimistic about 2010.
And attitude is a driver for action. If you think things will improve, they will. If you think this is the end of capitalism as we know it, it is for you in your experience.
There is a lot of activity in our office. How much of that is the result of civilians--buyers and sellers--feeling energized and how much is the result of energized agents making calls and reaching out? As of yesterday, we had 5 sales on the board. This, in an office of 14! Those are pretty darned good numbers for January, a month that is traditionally slow.
This form of "consumer confidence" is not to be denied.
