Tonight at a town hall meeting honoring Parowan's 159th Birthday, the town will also honor it's outstanding citizens' of the year. This year's recipients are Clarence and Wanda Benson. They have been actively involved in many organizations in Parowan for many, many years.
From a personal perspective no more humble, hard working, honest people exist not only in Parowan, but anywhere. Wanda for years has attended every funeral that has taken place in either Parowan or Paragonah. Also she has attended most of the weddings taking place in either town. To his friends (which is honestly everyone) Clarence is known as "Stiffy", a nickname he has had his entire life.
Wanda is a former City Council Member, and actively involved at that time with the Library Board. They have both been involved for many years identifying and marking the graves of each of the Veterans buried in Parowan.
Clarence or "Stiffy" is my mother's older brother. From my point of view there are no more deserving people in Parowan. He is a Veteran of the Korean War era, holding the distinction of being the first one in Parowan drafted for that War.
Proud parents of Debbie, Denise and Patrick and even prouder Grandparents of their two grandchildren, an honor that in my opinion is extremely well deserved and probably long overdue!
