Haiti Earthquake - Americans Should Really Count Their Blessings

Haiti Earthquake

This earthquake in Haiti hit 7.0 on the Richter scale. We see on the news the total devastation that Haiti is enduring. Too early to figure out a death and missing toll.

As I watch the news, I'm thinking how lucky we are to be living in America. Yes, in certain areas we have high taxes, people that live at and below the poverty line, high crime in certain areas, etc. All in all, America is the best place to live. We have freedoms that allow us to live freely where others do not. We have programs that help the poor. Haiti does not. Most there are homeless. More homeless and poor that we will ever have here.

We are really lucky to live in a country that can turn around and help a country like Haiti. They are fellow human beings and I would like to think that if we suffered a major devastation, other countries would help us.

The next time a little thing upsets you that is not important, think of the people in Haiti and what they are enduring at the moment. It will put it all into perspective.

Jackie:  I must living under a rock. Didn't realize that Haiti had such a tremendous earthquake.  Haven't watched the news in weeks and when I listen to the radio, I've been tuning in to sports radio and hearing the drama going on with our beloved problems.  But your point is made, even in my comment.  If that's the biggest complaint I have, my life isn't shabby.

Hi Chris Ann, I try not to watch the news myself in the mornings but Monday I did and couldn't believe it! Those poor people.

Make sure to send me your new rock address, lol. :):):)

It takes a catastrophe like this earthquake to remind us to keep everything in perspective.

My heart goes out to these poor people in this terrible time.

Fortunately, America is being a responsible neighbor and stepping up to provide emergency assistance.

Hi Stewart! You are right, tragedies remind us of how lucky we really are. I knew America would help out. We always do. And what Obama said about them not being forgotten, was a great thing!
