Today’s Web 2.0 wrap-up is a great recycled post from The Real Estate Tomato, Exactly How The Long Tail In Real Estate Blogging Will Bring The Ready-To-Act Home Buyer. Jim talks about the importance of using long-tail keywords when blogging, because it actually lets you control the type of buyer clients you attract (just looking vs. ready to go). “…the cumulative traffic gained from dozens of these sorts of micro-topic articles will easily outweigh the gains from high-demand search terms. And, more importantly, this traffic will target and attract more read-to-act buyers.” Check out his post, then think about ways you can talk about not just your city, but how you can answer potential clients questions about your neighborhood, your housing specialty or any specific topic you know concerns the people you want to connect with.
I guess it would help for me to know what a long tail key word is . . . I've never heard that turn of phrase before.
Thanks for the post. I just went and read the article and it makes a lot of sense.
Long tail key words show up down the road, as people change their search words, right?
Melissa - Sorry about that! A definition might help :) Short-tail keywords would be something like "Homes for sale" or "Chicago Homes for Sale". They are the short, simple keywords that you might use when you are starting your search. Long tail keywords would be something like "Bucktown Chicago townhouses for sale". They are longer, more specific, and usually used when someone is farther along in their search, and closer to being ready to buy (translation: the kind of internet leads you want!) Hope that helps!
Kirk and Gary - thanks for stopping by. Hope the post was helpful.
Evelyn - yes, long tail keywords are valuable for a long time, and are usually more targeted to people farther along in their search, closer to being ready to buy, because they've narrowed down what it is they want.
Rick - great job, that's very cool! Is it simply through long tail keywords, or are you doing off-site SEO as well for those?
I agree with you. Long tail will not get lost in the shuffle. I never thought about it before until I went to Rain Camp. Thanks for the post.
