Do You Know What Is On Your Credit Report? Find Out Free - Really!!!
So I was going through my email today, and came across an email from Trans Union reminding me that I hadn't signed into my account with their website to review my credit report since last year.
I check my credit reports and my wife's once a year just to be sure there's nothing on them that I don't know about. But before you rush off and buy a peek of your credit reports, either through the so-called free credit report websites, or pay the credit bureaus themselves, I've got a well-known secret to share with you-
Thanks to a federal law, everyone single person is entitled to one free credit report from each of the credit bureaus per year. Yep. Equifax, Experian and TransUnion all are required to allow you access to your credit reportsonce a year. And there is a very easy way to access all three reports.
Just go to www.annualcreditreport.com. Its a website provided by the combined efforts of Equifax, Experian and TransUnion. It is free, but be careful. They have certain upgrades they try to convince you to sign up with. Some upgrades are good, some are not. Just be sure if you do upgrade, its right for you. But again, watch everything you're doing, otherwise you could end up spending money when you had no intent to.
Also keep in mind that while you are allowed to see all three of your current credit reports, that does not entitle you to view your FICO score. If you want that you'll need to buy it.
So I'm off to check my credit reports and make sure there's no funny business in there!
