Who Wins - The Tortise or the Hare? (Internet Lead Conversion)

Who Wins in Internet Lead Conversion?

  1. The Hare
  2. The Tortoise

Actually, the correct answer should be a Team.  You need the quick start and repose of the Hare and the persistent and consistent follow up of the Tortoise.

  1. Hare -  The quicker you respond to an Internet lead, the more likely that you will catch the prospect and be able to do business with them.  The contact should be called or if there is no phone number, they should receive an e-mail within 5 minutes.  I recommend that the lead go directly from the Internet into a Treo, iPhone, Blackberry, etc.  Many people do not like auto responders and leads are expensive so it is smart to try and respond individually.  If it is in the middle of the night, an auto responder is acceptable.  My first contacts are low key with no hard sell,  I want them to view me as a person that is professional and courteous.  And very important --- respond to them.
  2. Tortoise  -  Here you need to SHIFT gears and work consistently and Tortoisepersistently.  Use a system and enter the prospect into your database.  As Winston Churchill said, "Never, never, never give up."  I have had clients that I kept in touch with for four years before they made a purchase.  Keep in contact with timely and personal messages.

Remember, the Team of Tortoise & Hare:  the hare catches their attention immediately and the tortoise keeps their attention for months or more.

Gary:  I've tried this and it does not always work...I think it doesn't work because people sign onto sites at a whim, kind of like the "Impulse Buyer".

I think it is numbers, more blogging more traffic, and I cause myself less grief by dealing with the interested ones who show more signs that they are real buyers.   For instance I have an appointment with a guy who signed onto my site 11/23.  All I did was send him the auto alerts.  Same thing happened last month and the person actually ended up buying.  To me there is nothing more irritating than doing everything right and really working the lead only to have them turn out to be lookie Lous.  :)

I always thought the winner was the internet lead generating company because they sell the same lead to 5 - 10 people for a fixed fee and then collect additional referrals over the top upon closing!

Jane,  You really make a good point.  I try to be more automated with the follow up for all so that it doesn't take too much time.  Then I can concentrate on the good leads.

Jim,  You are absolutely correct.  Although you should mention the ones that continue to sell the same leads year after year, even though the prospects may have already died of old age.

Dee,  Thank you.  This is the first time that I created my post in Komposer and then pasted it in ActiveRain as a post.  I think I will have a lot more fun with layouts and more control as I experiment.  In fact I just used it for these comments.

Jennifer,  I glad you stopped by.  It is amazing  how quickly everything moves with the Internet.
