Snapshot White Bear Lake, MN by Teri Eckholm Realtor

Like most other communities in the north east Twin Cities metro, White Bear Lake has seen more closed sales but at lower prices in 2009 compared to 2008. In this Northern Ramsey County city home sales dropped just over 16%; that's almost 30% over a two year period! Inventory levels are going down as there are just slightly less (4.1%) of new listings that came onto the market this past year. The average days-on-the-market statistic is down by 10% so homes are starting to sell faster in White Bear Lake. The bulk of sales has been in the lower price points as nearly 67% of all homes closed in 2009 were sold for less than $200,000. Another 27% were sold for prices in the $200,000-$300,000 range. Traditional sellers considering a move up in White Bear have an opportunity this year as there are so few starter homes but many higher valued homes to select from. Great picture...it reminds me of a train station we have in Westchester county where an old railroad car is a restaurant.

Teri, I love the caboose!  We have one in the middle of the old business district and it really adds character downtown. It's bright red!  (If you want to see it, it's on my profile page).

Hi Teri, A very nice report and I love the Photo. I had an idea. There must be a really good story about that rail car caboose?. Perhaps you would consider running the photo again only this time as a photo blogger post about that train car and how and why it is there. Like the idea?

Teri, good report on White Bear Lake, MN. We are seeing similar results for 2009 in Grand Rapids MI, lots of homes sellling but for less.

Love your photo snapshot - I have a real weakness for depots. I would consider living in one if it wasn't right next to a railroad track!!

Yolanda--I have seen it! Very cool...Yes, I do think the caboose adds character to WBL. So different from all the white bear statues throughout town.

William--Great idea. I don't know if the museum is open in the winter but maybe in the summer I will have time to stop in and find out more about the little caboose's story.

Terry and Bonnie--Especially right next to an active railroad track and depot. :) There are so few of these buildings left in the midwest. Kind of cool that this is WBL's history center.
