Hi Victoria, Great topic and good information.
I feel one of the most important attribtutes of a home inspection is communication compatibility. Some people prefer a concise description of the problem while others prefer the college thesis and numerous recommendations.
Which is the better inspection? Assuming equal technical accuracy, the better inspection is the one you prefer.
You may want to get a feel for how the inspector communicates. One method is to ask a question on a familiar home problem and listen to their explanation. For example, if you're familiar with electrical issues you might ask; Can you tell me about the risks of aluminum wiring and how you identify them?
There are many correct ways to answer this question. If you are already familar with the risks, then you can listen to the inspectors communication style. Finding you're preferred communication style may give you confidence when your inspector explains unfamiliar areas of the home.
A good home inspection is crucial to having a loyal client for years to come.
