Spanish Banks Dog Beach
I recently adopted an old dog from the SPCA. While I originally wanted a puppy, I now know that adopting an older dog brings about a set of joys that I would not have known from a much younger dog. My "puppy" is a 9 year old rottweiler/ lab mix. It is through his eyes (and his love of the water and stick chasing) that I have found one of my favourite places in Vancouver.
Vancouver has fabulous paths for walking, jogging and biking and they circle around the entire waterfront - from Stanley Park in the downtown core to the edge of Point Grey in Vancouver West. There are tons of dog friendly off leash areas but recently my dog and I have ended up spending a lot of our time at the Spanish Banks Dog Beach. There, you will find long stretches of rock and sandy beach to throw sticks, chase Frisbees and play with other dogs. The views are spectacular - you can see out to the Pacific Ocean, the north shore mountains, and the downtown city core. During the week, we almost always have the place to ourselves. On a lovely Saturday morning (as it was when the pictures below were taken) it is a bit busier.
I recommend you check it out. The scenery is spectacular. For those of you visiting with dogs, I have attached a list of our off leash dog parks. The Spanish Banks Dog Beach is number 22 on the map. Have fun!
