WHY HIRE PROFESSIONALS, WHEN YOU WON'T LISTEN TO THEM????

Reblogger George Souto

I am sure that we all have experienced situations similar to what Valerie in her blog below.  I know I run into on the Mortgage side of the business fairly often, and it is something that we need hand in a professional way in how we respond.

When it comes to buying and selling property.. even renting property for that matter, there is a lot of stress that comes along with this.  Potential clients are very aware of this.  Hiring a Realtor that looks out for your best interest, and helps in trying to relieve some of this stress.  This is why you have interviewed them and have hired one that you feel is professionial.  Realtors take classes, and continuing ed classes to ensure they are up on all current issues.  There are even Realtors that focus their career on buyers.  They have a designation of ABR (Accredited Buyers Representative).

Home inspectors also need to be licensed.  When it comes to making sure the home you wish to purchase has no surprises, and you are aware of what might be needed in repairs or forthcoming issues you hire an inspector that knows their job, and has had the training.

So, why after interviewing Realtors, paying for home inspections, do clients take the word of gospel what their neighbor tells them about this home you wish to purchase?  they speak to their bosses, co-workers and family members.  Anyone that will listen and give them their advice.  For the most part non of these people have ever seen the home you wish to purchase.

If the home inspector mentions that there is a cracked tile in the kitchen and is just pointing that out to you.  It doesn't necessarily mean it needs a new floor.  But ask them your questions.. this is what they are there for.  When you talk to your boss about this and he/she says "walk away from this home, it is going to be money pit,  because you will need to jack up the house and put in a new foundation."  All of this due to a cracked tile?  Where in the world are they bassing their information on?  They haven't seen the house or are licensed in this field.

You've hired professionals... ask them your questions.  If you have a good Realtor, and home inspector, they are worth their weight in gold.. and will look out for your best interest.

George - This is the power of social media and why we have to stay attuned to Facebook, Twitter, Linked-In, YouTube and so forth.  People care about what other people think.  They don't just trust their doctors, lawyers, or other professionals.  I don't.  I question my doctor, I quiz my attorney.  Why should my clients accept my word over people they trust?  I expect my clients to ask tough questions and I better be able to show them  the facts that support why I am making recommendations to them.

Debbie business really started to pick up this week, so I am expecting a very good Spring, and WELCOME BACK :)

Gail, that is a very good question "Why should my clients accept my word over people they trust?" their trust and respect has to be earned, and that comes from showing them our knowledge in stead of telling them how knowledgeble we are.  There is nothing wrong with questioning, in fact I find that the questioning creates stronger relationships.  I have never run away from a question, even when I know the answer is not what my Borrower wants to hear.  My experience has been that when one of my Borrowers chooses to follow Uncle Charlie's advice in stead of mine, they usually come back to say they should have listened.

Hmm, George, you must have been very busy over the past few weeks...but this was a good choice to reblog...Val has definitely hit the nail on the head, and Gail's response is the key...people don't trust those they don't know...it definitely takes some effort on our part to establish that trust, and how we do that is exacly what you said...show them our knowledge, not just tell them.

George this is an issue we all encounter; it is unbelievable how many people ignore the advice given by the person they hired for said reason.

George, after reading some comments that came in after mine I wanted to jump back in and reinforce what Gail #16 said; that we should ask all the questions we can to help make us better informed.  After playing the devils advocate, you will have a better sense of the worth of those you've hired to act in your best interest.

George,

Thanks for coming by and visiting lately.  I still don't think you're old enough to have been with your wife for 35 Valentine Days!  If you are, then age doesn't show...

Gita, you are welcome

Bill, this has been my busiest January and February that I have had in a long time.  On top of that I have had to take a class for the National Loan Officers Test that Loan Officers now have to take, and I have also been studying for that in my spare time.  that has not left much time for anything else.  I am hoping to sneak in a blog here and there, so we will see.

George, I know what you mean about staying current and classes that have to be taken.  I'm also doing 18 hours of CE online for my Brokers license in Illinois that is due April 30...lots going on with the time of the year and me waiting till the last minute to complete CE courses.  And it doesn't end there...I've got another 12 hours due in September for my license here in Alabama.  Glad I went inactive with my appraisers license...that would have been another 28 hours...too much!
