Please don't be rude to other agent's and act like they are dumb for asking a question!

Real Estate Agent with Real Estate Solutions 2002018857

A few months back I showed a house to clients of mine, the sellers were in the house when we opened the door, they rushed out and accidentally left the garage door open.  They had an alarm system on the house and other things to signify that they would liked the house locked and sealed...  When I was leaving I tried to call the listing agent and received her voice-mail so I called her office to ask if I should close the garage door or leave it open.  (I always leave the house in the condition I found it- if lights are on- I leave them on...  If doors are unlocked I leave them unlocked...)  While speaking to the agent in the office- she rudely told me to leave the house in the condition I found it.  I tried to explain that I thought a phone call to the sellers would be helpful- (there was also about 15 teenagers hanging around outside the house).   Again let me remind you she was extremely rude, I have clients in my car and can't express my concern about leaving this house wide open...  Thankfully the listing agent called me back and asked me to close the garage door.  Whew... that was a close one...

Personal concerns also included; The concern for the family who had a beautiful home with pride of ownership and leaving it wide open for anyone to come in? I was the last one in the house- I can be held responsible for the house and it's contents.    My clients view of me as an agent and humanitarian.  My client's view of the agent on the other end of the phone from the office and their opinion of that office now (I believe that the listing agent may have recovered their reputation some in my clients eyes...  but imagine if I had not heard back from the listing agent)

Providing the very best of service to Sellers and

You should be commended Shanna.  Many agents wouldn't take the time to place the calls.  Your professionalism may have saved the Sellers some serious grief.

Thanks Tom!  I know that I didn't want to leave the garage door open but I also want to follow "the rules"   and leave  the house in the condition that you found it.  It was definatly worth the phone call to me and the home owner.  Another concern was if they had a way to get back in if I did close the door.

Shanna,

There's never an excuse for rudeness. You did the right thing by calling. I hope the other agent appreciated your thoughtfulness.

Hats off to you, Shanna, for taking the time to make that call. And remember, karma will come back to get the rude agent. ;)

Reminds me of the old saying "if you are right but you are rude then you are wrong".  You did the right thing.
