The Bear Mountain Bridge is yet another photo in my bridge series that I took from a moving train.  This is a suspension bridge over the Hudson River and was put into operation in 1924.

This bridge connects  Peeksill in Westchester county on the east side of the river,  to Orange County in the west. The area is very scenic and Bear Mountain Park is a popular recreational destination.

Many travel this Bridge to get too and from another well known national institution, West Point, which is located just about 20 minutes from the east side of the bridge.

Jennifer I am always amazed on not only how they can span a bridge over long distances like that, but the weight these structures can support as well.

That is quite a span on that bridge. You picked a beautiful time of the year for the picture with the ice floes and all. I still think about those robots you had a few weeks ago.

George Those are thought I also have.  It is truly amazing

Ray I don't think we often think about how much impact engineers and architects have on our lives.

Tony and Darcy It was my pleasure.

Bill I love this area so it is easy to show it off.  I also appreciate all the places I have visited from my living rooms thanks to the members here.

Debi me too.

Ginger I don't like bridges in a snow storm, so I can imagine how awful that must have been.

Robert That is a great area to hike.  The hudson River is so interesting in what ever weather condition.

Myrl - The ice made the river a more interesting subject.
