Please Advise PLEASE ADVISE Please Advise

Does anyone else find this phrase at the end of an email to be redundant? If someone asks me a question in an email, I don't also need to be reminded to answer that question with a "Please Advise" at the end.

I'll go as far as to say I find it irritating unless we were to make a drinking game out of it. Hey office, whenever anyone emails you "Please Advise", DRINK!

Who started this terrible fad anyways? It sounds like something a lawyer would write at the end of their email. I find it to be less professional and more pretensious and (once again) redundant ;)

Your thoughts?

I think it's just become a standard phrase used in the industry to ask for comments or confirmation.  I find it less insulting than to see emoticons or text messages that have to be translated before anyone other than the author can understand them.

But I may be wrong.  Please advise.

Hi Shelly-

We all have our pet peeves... I guess this happens to be yours..  I use this term because I feel it is more professional than ending an email with a question.

It is a well accepted phrase that is used formally. It is more often used in a declarative than interrogative sentence.  For example: I am unable to locate your watermark. Please advise. There is nothing pretentious about it, but I could see how it could be interpreted that way if it were misused.

Shelly - LMAO!  GUILTY AS CHARGED!  Like J. Philip, I guess I never looked at it your way.  I will think twice now before I do again though.

LOL! I agree there are times it may be useful like J. Philip's example, it's just so overused these days!!

Yes my dear Sister this too drives me nuts. It is redundant, arrogant and spreads like a VIRUS among us. I advise everyone to stop typing "Please Advise". Very douchey. LOL!

Must be a west coast thing perhaps. I seldom see the phrase used.
