The new Safety Cameras have "caught" me making a right turn on a red light!
Imagine my surprise when I opened up an envelope from the Federal Way Police Department to find a "COURTESY WARNING NOTICE" complete with photographs of my "infraction". I thought they were going to ask for a donation, but they did not. This is a warning only but the letter lets me know that this "infraction" carries a penalty up to $250.00.
The photo's in the notice clarify to me that I did stop first, but perhaps it wasn't long enough (have you ever heard of a California Stop?).
Well, fellow Federal Way residents: Be aware and be careful.
Julie
Julie, I guess it's making its way here from some other places around the world. I have heard of this from other countries around Europe and was wondering when it would make it to the States.
Well, the day has come when they have arrived here. The return address on my envelope was from someplace in Arizona. ? Thanks for the comments Bob.
They finally removed them from some of the cities here in Southern California, after a lot of complaints poured in. The right on red (without making a complete stop) was the biggest complaint, followed by the accidents that they caused. I accidently found my way onto a toll road once, got my picture taken, and I was really upset since I would never ever use a toll road. I consider them to be a violation of my rights. I contacted everyone in the local municipality, and they actually dropped it the same day I received it.
Gregg, that is very good to hear. This is definately a violation of our rights, I completely agree with you. The media splashes were all about protecting our citizens from illegal activity. Pretty hard to argue about that - no one wants danger around us, but the cameras are wrong, wrong, wrong.
