Are You A Doctor Of Real Estate Or Only In It For The Money?

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty 0575737

Doc Real EstateMany in the medical field, particularly doctors, do have a stereotype that some are only in it for the money. Particularly specialities, for example plastic surgeons. Well at least that's what TV shows like Nip Tuck would lead you to believe.

But looking at our own ethics across all real estate professions,

Are You A Doctor Of Real Estate Or Only In It For the Money?

OK, the last few years many with that money question might even laugh at that premise. But averaged out over 20 years or so many real estate individual practitioners and teams can make a substantial income as a business venture. The "caring" about all people that come before you is the ethical question. Even if you don't specialize in sub $100,000 properties, can you refer them out? If you don't work with first time buyers do you still find a way to help them?

The way to get rich they say is to help enough people get what THEY want and it in the end like a Karma effect, helps you get what you want. The Code of Ethics is your Hippocratic oath.

You Never Can Go Wrong In Life TRULY caring about another, with blinders on as to the money that ends up in your pocket at the moment!

Gary - As other's have mentioned the people who were in it for the money are gone.  Although I have noticed some are trying to hang on as part-timers.

Just like doctors, we have to keep practicing, because every case is different!

I just stumbled on your post here and read several.  I like the homespun honesty that so many people forget when they are under pressure to feed themselves.  What you say is true that in the giving you get.  Stay focused, positive and fully engaged in helping and those grateful people will help you if you stay top of mind with them.

Gary, what money?  I've been buried in short sales for almost 3 years now.  I guess I'm a specialist because I like helping people, 'cause there sure isn't any money in it!

Gary, Hard work in this industry is generally followed by a financial reward but if you were in it for the money, then something else more lucrative came along and you're gone!

Hi Gary, I've missed reading your posts,  been so busy lately!  I worked with about a dozen renters this year (2009) because of poor credit.  It is a lot of work for 50% of the first month's rent.  But, we are in a service business and we are here to help.  The money is secondary, but then I have a husband who has a steady job and insurance so it's probably easier for me to be in that position.  I have helped those renters get set up with credit repair companies and hopefully in 2010 maybe they'll be ready to buy a house!

I am continually amazed at who God puts in front of me to help and while I am not always ready with a willing heart, I do get there and understand what my true role is and act on it.

Thanks for so many wonderful comments from all. I have been working all day and just got back to sit down and read them. I know I am learning more about this topic of service with the money will come along vs. just in it for the money with so many wise comments. Helping renters, first time buyers, referring business out, I think long term builds good business for us. We do have to prioritize our time however in areas where we can make a living however. That is just as important.

It is always about the money. That does not mean we can not do a good job for our clients. If you put your clients needs and wants first and foremost and always do what is best for them, you will make money.

If I was independently wealthy I would still do this job and donate all of my money to charity. I love what I do and price of property does not matter to me. I love your post!

Great Post! This attitude should extend to other agents and professionals you come in contact with also. Take the time to build up your relationships and you'll not have to worry about everything crashing down.

Anybody that works anything just for the money just cant last very long in it. It's the passion that drives us and gets us out of bed.

Now, surely you don't watch Nip Tuck - do you? That show has really gone crazy the last few seasons but I cant help but to watch it. Somehow I think "Sean" answered his calling. (Just my opinion).

You are so right.

Other agents get down right shocked when they hear for the business that I referred out when it is "just down the road" But that is nor the area that I specialize in. While I see other agents wasting their time and money driving 2 hours to get a listing or show buyers around.
