Real Estate Training By A Practicing Broker for Agents & Brokers
The next time someone solicits you to take their training class, seminar, or workshop ask them how many real estate transactions they closed in the last 12 months. Some of the best training I received in my career came from those who were actually out there in the trenches.
My brokers were hands on listing and selling brokers. Often new agents will shy away from a firm not wanting to compete with their broker. This is not the case. The broker that is out there doing what you do understands the market and will be a much more effective trainer than the absentee broker or manager that simply sit behind a desk all day and monitor your files. When you get some experience that dynamic may change. You may then go out and get your training from outside trainers like me. I take many training courses from trainers not in the business but not on how to operate my day to day real estate transactional business because they simply have no experience.
The same thing applies to trainers. There are many that are sales trainers who have never even touched a real estate transaction and others that have not sold anything in years. They do know basic sales techniques and have much to offer. However, they do not have the day to day hands on experience in the rapidly changing landscape of transactional business. These trainers are excellent at what they do such as motovation, accountability, etc. But that old day to day how to training needs to be taught by those who are actually finding success and overcomming failures just like you are in our business.
I recently attended a seminar where the trainer did not know much about technology or social media so he said it was all just a big waste of time. REALLY? I suppose he does not use email or a smart phone either. Another trainer recently designed a rather watered down course on REO's because she had not sold one in over 10 years and had such dated information that if the students had followed her program they would be hard pressed to succeed.
So 2010 is upon us. I will be posting much information on AR for your future developement and hope you will find it useful. Please feel free to visit my web site at www.silverliningworkshops.com for a calendar of upcomming workshops throughout the year and subscribe to my blog here for information and updates.
