An open house may not help sell your house.

An open house in not away to sell your house. An open house is a prospecting tool for the agent, not a way to sell your home. In fact, many experienced agents won't even host their own open houses. They get a newer agent to host it. I did this many times as a new agent myself.
Think about it, if homes where commonly sold at open houses, would the listing agent risk giving up half of their commission to the agent hosting the open house? Not to say that a house will not sell at an open house just consider that it most likely will not sell this way.
Most of these buyers that will show up at an open house are looking for homes that are nothing like yours. It isn't really expected that the agent will sell your house at the open house. Consider this when you plan on selling as a For Sale by Owner.
If you or your agent hosts an open house, make sure you hide all valuables and put easily-broken things away but don't have high expectations, your house may not sell at an open house.

My Open Houses bring buyers.  Good buyers.  The problem with For Sale By Owner is the buyer does not want to go into some one elses house, but into "their" next house.  The presence of the owner puts a dampener on the showing, buyers can't think.  I always ask my owners to "take a vacation" for a few hours while I sell your home.  Buyers feel more at ease with me.  It's almost like a private showing.  And the buyers are not looking to take away my paycheck, as is the case with "for sale by owner".  So who saves the commission?  Not the seller,  the buyer  does not want to pay a FSBO a transaction fee.  So the seller works "FOR FREE".

Would helping your Realtor gain leads be a good idea? Even if the agent of an open house did not find a buyer the day of the oppen house, our business is all about networking. And any opportunity for the sellers agent to network will help the seller. Just a thought.
