Family Time - Hanging with my nieces and nephews

FAMILY & FRIENDS – So important

As several of you know, my sister adopted 11 years ago. It has turned out to be a wonderful story. It started with the fact that my sister couldn't have kids, well, that is what several specialists had said from all over. So my sister and brother-in-law decided to adopt. They were actually approved to adopt up to 3 kids at once and this took place in Kazakhstan. They adopted a boy and girl, Katerina and Johnny. Well, when they came back after about a solid month in Kazakhstan, because of their adoption process, my sister found out that she was pregnant.  So about 7 months later, she had Andrew. After about a year, thinking about my niece being a lonely girl, surrounded by 2 boys, they decided to adopt a girl. They named her Alisha.

Now, about 4 years have passed and I get a phone call one night from my mom. "Hey Jeff, are you sitting down."  I had thought something bad had happened to one of the kids. My mom then says, "your sister is pregnant."  Okay, so it's another kid... NOPE...  My mom says, try again.. TWINS...  At birth, they were blessed with a boy and a girl, Joey and Ava.....

So today, it was spent with 4 of my 6 nieces and nephews, yet I will be spending a few hours with the twins tomorrow. This morning was started out with watching my nephew Johnny playing basketball.

Here is my nephew Johnny, # 32, playing some defense for his school's basket basketball team.

Brother-in-law Joe & Johnny

Here is my brother-in-law Joe and my nephew Johnny... Father and son during the Pinewood Derby. Johnny is actually in Webelos now.

Pinewood Derby cars

Here is the starting gate for the cars. Johnny's car is 2nd from the right... boy, have things changed.  When I did this as a kid, we had a wooden track, not metal.

Johnny waiting for the race to start

Here is Johnny, with his handsome smile, waiting for the first race to start.  He did much better this year, finishing 2nd in his heat and about 6th overall, out of 13 or so in his Pack. Way to go Johnny!!!!

Johnny's race car

Johnny's car is the red one... and he made it as a theme of the Philadelphia Phillies.  Go Phillies in 2010.

Johnny and his award

Here is Johnny with his trophy for most enthusiastic Webelis during the races.

Here is Johnny and his sister Alisha.  Aren't they cute...

Andrew and Johnny

Here is a picture taken from last years Pinewood Derby. Brothers Andrew and Johnny. I included this picture because Andrew was sick and didn't feel like participating in the Derby last minute.

Joey and Ava

Lastly.... here is Joey and Ava, the evil Twins... lol  TEASING.. they are so much fun. I am including this picture from around Christmas time, because they weren't at the Pinewood Derby.  I will be hanging out with them tomorrow.  And I didn't capture the oldest, Katerina, because she was running around the gymnasium.

Overall, they are all very good kids. Very polite, nice, fun.... and their Uncle Jeff loves hanging around them..  Thanks..

Your sister sure knows how to pick kids!

She also proves it's nurture not nature!

I remember my brother being in the Pinewood Derby. He was so proud and I was glad to be there to support him. Enjoy the growing family.

Jeff - thanks for sharing the story of your family.  It so often happens that those that have trouble conceiving or that are told they can't concieve, adopt and subsequently find out they are pregnant.  This bunch looks like a well blended one and lucky to have such caring parents and extended family.  Enjoy them all.

I vividly remember so many events tied to boy scouts and royal rangers (like boy scouts). Such great times. Most events memorable because they were fun, and some, lol, because they were ... memorable!

I remember when my son was in the pinewood derby. It was a lot of fun. That and the boat races. Of course, we learned the hard way about the boats the first year. We were MUCh wiser and faster in the second year.

Oh my gosh! I feel for your sister! Mine had 5 boys, then got divorced, and ended up marrying a man with 2 girls >.<  Now the house is constantly overrun with kids and grandkids. It's a madhouse. LOL And yes, there is a set of twins in my sisters's group of boys. I honestly don't know how some mom's are able to stay so calm, and loving, and willing to completely give up their lives (which is what it takes) to successfully raise that many children. I only had one for a reason! I know I couldn't handle it! God bless those who can!

Great story - many times I have heard to pregnancy after adoption.  Lovely family - I don't have children but a lot of nieces and nephews and it s so much fun spending time with them - as you said, family is important and not all work!  I love it when I have clients with small children - makes it a fun day.

ERIC.... .  I totally agree 110%... and it goes soooo fast, doesn't it..

LORA.... . it is amazing... especially when several of the specialists said it just wouldn't happen, because of her circumstances. So yes, it has been a blessing... and yes, they are a great blend of kids.. and that we have such a loving family.. thanks

STEVE.... . Royal Rangers?  My first thought was Power Rangers.. lol  But seriously, is Royal Rangers a British outfit?  lol  Seriously, never heard of them. I was once in Indian guides. And yes, because some were fun and some were memorable, but some of those so called memories we can't share in public, right?  lol  Thanks for reminiscing with me on that part.

JOHN... .  the boat races?  I don't remember that or if they do it with their packs over here...  Question... who made your sons cars? ;o)  thanks

LISA.... .  wow, you sister had 5 boys?  My mom came from a family of 5 girls, so she had 4 sisters. My dad come from a family of 7, 5 boys and 2 girls.  Me?  Just myself and my sister... but 5 boys?  wow...  In regards to how you don't know how mom's can handle it?  I know my sister is tired daily... but my parents help out as much as possible. And my sister at times has some hired help. But still... I still don't know how she does it... thanks

CATHY... . thanks for the kind words... they are very good...  and nope, I don't have kids either... still possibly one day... lol  But seriously, family is important and in many cases, over-looked. Especially in our busy professions.  thanks

GABE.... .it was.. thanks.. and I had a good time with them and it did bring back some fond memories.. thanks

That is a fair question Jeff. For the cars, I did help but for the most part it was my son. As for the boat races (actually called Raingutter Regatta (I had to look it up to remember the name)), I pretty much made most of it. The first year, he did most of it but it wasnt balanced correctly. I blame myself since we didnt know what to expect. The second year it was mostly me and the 3rd year it was both of us again. :-)

BETHANN.... . my pleasure... I enjoying sharing stuff like this... thanks

GITA.... . yea, I liked the Phillies car. His grandfather did that for him... thanks
