Success as a Realtor

By
Real Estate Agent with America's Real Estate Advocates

Hello Active Rain people.  Let me ask you something.  What in your opinion makes a successful realtor?  This is something that I struggle with.  If you close 10 transactions a month?  If you close 10 transactions a year?  What if you close 2 transactions a year but have educated hundreds of homeowners and helped them choose the right path for them in this economic crisis????  It is my duty as a real estate professional (with legal background)) to educate homeowners about foreclosure and it's options.  I can't ignore the passion to help people that naws at my gut.

I haven't closed 10 transactions a month and I didn't close 10 transactions last year, but I have helped hundreds of homeowners avoid scams or foreclosure.  I have given peace of mind and hope to struggling homeowners.  Now that hasn't exactly paid my bills but it has filled my heart.  Am I a successful realtor?

(please be gentle with me, my feelings can get hurt)

Kathryn, you sound like your heart is in the right place. iIam a succcessful realtor(without HUGE numbers). My rule of thumb being that I sell in my own neighborhood is that I have to schedule an hour to go to the post office because my former clients and buyers don't run away. They stop and chat! I love tyhat feeling!

Hi Kathryn,

Success is something that we each have to define for ourselves.  10 in a month might be a terrible month for one agent, but not for me.  I can't help but think that part of being successful is doing enough business to stay in business.  If you can do that on 2 transactions and you love what you do, than you may define that as successful.  Chances are though, that you can tweak a few things and become more successful.  If you've been in front of "hundreds of homeowners" but only translated that into 2 transactions, you would benefit from altering part of your approach.  Find a mentor or a coach who can help you make the jump from successful but hungry to successful and healthy.
