A COMMUNITY EFFORT ON THE SUNSHINE COAST

By
Home Stager with UPSTAGING YOUR HOMES

It is 2 days before deadline and it is going to be tight.  The kitchen was the biggest mess and needed the most work, which is on-going & hopefully completed late today or early tomorrow morning.

I am staging a vacant 1 bedroom condo for a gentleman who turned 100 in September.  As his eyesight has failed, he finally had to move into assisted living nearby. He has actually come over a few times wanting to help with the renos, and has been wanting to choose the paint colours.  NOT!!!

The funnest (have always wanted to use that word, altho not great english) part of this job is the contributions from our retail and artistic communities KERNS FURNITURE BOUTIQUE is sending over a queen bed, a dresser and night stand; KISS  HOME & GARDEN BOUTIQUE has loaned me a lovely table and a gilt edged mirror as welll as decor items; ARBUTUS TREE INTERIOR has provided decor items; and one of the Coast's most renowned artists Anita Lundbloom has graciously loaned me 4 pieces of her art.

The realtor, Russ Qureshi of Remax, sold my services to the owner/seller and he is totally OK with notices that all of these lovely pieces are for sale.

I am going to have a draw for a free re-design or staging consultation in exchange for a minimum $5 donation to Habitat for Humanity.

Other members of this condo community have been dropping in, anxious to see what we are doing in Stan's suite, so we are having a special reveal for them and the owner.  I have invited our local newspaper, the COAST REPORTER and hopefully they will follow up.

So, to refresh your memory, this condo had dated wallpaper in every room.  I was asking for paint colour suggestions for a beach theme in a condo near the marina. I went with a lovely beach sand colour in the LR/DR/entry area; gossimer blue in the bedroom and ocean air in the bathroom and walk-in which connect from the bedroom.

The kitchen & laundry room are being painted Paie Moon and will have new terracotta tiles on floor.  I have taken out the upper cupboards which were in very bad shape and due to budget, going with open shelving.  The counter and bottom cupboards will be done in melamine paint to make up for defects and will all be Black Bean Soup.

I will be sorry to see this project come to an end.

Thanks Dagny,

One of my favourite trips was a solo drive thru the New England states after meeting up with a friend in NYC.  Love Connecticut.

Great to hear from you.

Thanks Birgit,

The co-operation has been so great!   We have final tiling to do in kitchen and then I can finish staging and take after shots.

My client was by yesterday with friends and really liked the changes so far.  He looked adorable in his ball cap which proclaimed, "KISS ME, I'M 100".

Hi Kathy,

It has been a demanding project with all of the renos requied.   An aging gentleman do-it-yourselfer with failing eyesight does not lead to the best results.  We have had to undo/replace where it was going to be more $$ to fix rather than just replace.

Friday is wind up and final staging.

Thank you Fred,

It is precedent setting as far as I know.  I am very pleased with co-operation from everyone.  Final touches and then pix up.  Have any clients who want a 1 bdrm condo walking distance from marina in Gibsons?

Sharon, I love the way you thought "outside the box" and involved the community.  What a great local news story this would make.  Hope your paper has the good sense to pick up the story.  Can't wait to see the after shots.

Sally,

Thanks for your comments.   I thought it would be good local story and would fit under heading Community, however the Editor declined it.  Said it was not right for them????

I am glad it was a voice mail message!

I am going to try another angle.   Pix soon.

Sharon, great how you were able to get so many of the furnishings donated, which I'm sure kept the costs down to your client. I normally rent all my furniture but am in the process of looking into partnerships in the community like yours. Thanks for the inspiration!

Annie,

If I rent furnishings for my Coast clients, it gets expensive as the furniture has to come over on a ferry.  So, renting is not a very viable option for me if I am trying to keep costs down for client.

My 100 year old client was over yesterday as I was preparing for the realtor caravan this morning & big open house on Sunday.  I asked him to be sure & wear his "Kiss Me I'm 100" hat on Sunday.

He sat on the sofa & explained the design he carved on fireplace surround.  Interesting man.

Thanks for your comments.

Hi Maureen,

That was part of my plan - as well as keeping costs down for my client.  I was thrilled with ready response from retailers, altho I am going to have to come up with another solution for staging vacants and I don't want a large inventory??   Hmmmmm!!!!
