Writing Your Own Newsletters

By
Real Estate Agent with Realty ONE Group
From the beginning of time when I got into the real estate business, I always handed out a newsletter.  Personally, I love to write (and would love my own column for the newspaper, or to finish that book I started years ago) so I decided to compose my own newsletter, Noelle's Neighborhood News.  Yes, in the beginning it easily took over 5 hours from start to finish.  However, once I got the basic outline down, all I had to do was update it with my new content.  I even go so far as to personally hand it out door to door every month, and still do to this day.  The way I look at it is... I get to be out doors, make face to face contact, exercise and it is better than sitting behind a desk all day long.  The neighbors see me working, will stop me to ask questions, or just say "hi".  At first I didn't notice a response from homeowners, but I continued to write my thoughts, ideas and concepts.  I found it to be more of a therapy for me and who doesn't love talking about things that matter to them?  However, something has changed over the years since I started this.  I discovered homeowners felt they really knew me because I write from the heart and they could actually relate to me.  I like to write to make people think, feel and change their viewpoint.  Now I find homeowners asking me when the next newsletter is coming.  They are actually stopping me to tell me how much they enjoy my articles and to keep them coming.  Homeowners are calling me on the phone to help them because they feel they know me and trust me.  I even had one woman I had never met tell me I was in her will when she dies as the person to sell her home.  So don't stop here with a simple blog, take it all the way to the people, so they can feel and see you.

I started a newsletter in January this year. It's still very "basic", just monthly market updates, mortgage rate quotes, calendar of events, that kind of thing. I have one single online subscriber but hey, it's a beginning.

I used to write a personal newsletter too.  I now find that blogging serves that purpose better.  But I think I will start taking the best blog articles and making a paper newsletter with them.
