A coastal city situated in the northern part of the San Diego County at a distance of 25 miles north of San Diego. The largest industry of the city is of ornamental flowers especially poinsettias. The city was incorporated in 1986 by merging of five distinct communities the Old Encinitas, New Encinitas, Olivenhain, Leucadia and Cardiff-by-the-Sea; each of them still maintaining their own charm and flavor. The city is positioned on six miles of the Pacific coastline and houses the Quail Botanical Gardens, which is a great place to visit.
The beaches of Encinitas are amazing and there are several beaches that stretch from Cardiff-by-the-Sea to La Costa. There are a number of surfing contests held every year in the city.
