Why is the media trashing the housing market and economy?

Does this get on your nerves? It gets on mine! Every single day the media seems to have a different slant to how horrible things are out there. They must not have visited my local Best Buy on Saturday afternoon last week. The place was slammed. Now, I would think that January and February would be slow months for retailers. Everyone that needed an electronic gadget would have bought it over the Holidays, right? Makes sense to me.

But, this place was very busy. There were probably 600 people there at 4:00 on Saturday Afternoon. You couldn’t find an employee to help you. And the road thru the front of the parking lot had 6-7 cars lined up at the stop signs. The business is there for the people that get out there and look for it. One of my friends works in construction and is very slow. Another guy I know, who owns a cabinet company, is busy. What’s the difference? The guy who is busy is out there looking for business. He is quoting on more jobs than ever and talking to more contractors.

That is how you can grow your business in today’s market. To be honest with you, most of the Expireds and FSBOs aren’t being called on by other agents. “What’s the use of taking a listing if it doesn’t sell?” is most agent’s attitude. It will sell if you get it priced to sell! And, you can get a lot of listings by just going out and looking for the business. Put 1-2 hours a day into this activity and your business will turn around.

I feel you.  I see good things happening all around, but the media keeps telling people otherwise.  Unfortunately many people believe everything that they read in papers and seen on TV.  (That is another discussion.)  The industries related to housing are suffering, but others are thriving.  Perhaps if everyone stopped listening to the media they would open their pocket books and things would different.  ??
