It Is What It Is, The Flow Technique For Better Living

Little Girl Blowing BubblesOne aspect of life you learn very clearly being a REALTOR is NOTHING ever works out according to plan. Costs more, takes more time than you think, people wig out on you, people don't show up for appointments, associates don't do what they say, the list goes on and on. For some, this change from the expected drives them crazy. It ought not. Much of life works this way all the time. Instead learn,

It Is What It Is, The Flow Technique For Better Living.

"Embrace Reality." Let that two word sentence be your mantra for three weeks till you get it.

You can only change who? Yourself. Influence others, shape events and situations yes, but mostly the final end result with all that, is out of your control. Take you being fat for example. Take another person being fat too. Three months from now with some diet and exercise you may be slim and trim. Three months from now, who knows what the other person will be like, DESPITE your best effort to help them. That's where the flow technique comes in. With much of life FLOW with it!!!

You know, row, row, row, your boat? What Gary, you are singing me a song now? What is the next verse? Gently down the stream. Merrily, merrily....

a secret to happiness is letting life flow!!

Think of how life can flow. Let it reveal itself to you in its own time. Let life unfold. You will experience dumb luck. You will be in the right place at the right time. Why is this? Who knows?

This image on this one should help out. You are blowing bubbles into the wind. Where do they go? Who knows? It doesn't really matter. You are going with life's flow. You are living better. You are happy. This is reality. And living in a world where it is what it is with indeed you trying to shape it and make it better, but at the same time accepting it is as it is, you will find so much more serenity.

Quit fighting life's flow!!! Change you. Be the best. Let the rest go.

Gary, great post.  It's one of the aspects of this job that I am working on.  It might entail meditation, rolling with the pouches, etc.  Every day is full of unexpected distractions, good and bad.  Changes in plans, etc.

I need to follow this advice better Gary!  I always joke with my hubby that I "just go with the flow" and he rolls his eyes, b/c he knows I am soooo organized, go by lists, need a routine, typical Type A!

Put 40 years of experience to work for you

Yup, you just deal with the cards you are dealt. A perfect example: I set a signing appointment for a seller at 2 PM on Friday. The buyer's lender tells me she doesn't think she can get loan docs to title in time to close by the scheduled closing date. So, I cancel the appointment for the seller and send out an addendum that will extend the closing date. Then the buyer's lender, all of a sudden, anticipates releasing loan docs early. So I reschedule the signing appointment for Friday.

On another listing, we were in escrow with short sale approval, after losing 2 buyers and costing us 10 months of work. During this time, pipes broke in the ceiling and flooded the house. The buyer canceled escrow. I put slashed the price and put the home back on the market and sold it a 4th time as a "contractor's special." Stuff happens.

Gary - you are a great mentor, may I call you mentor?  I think as a real estate agent that is the first thing you learn :)

Gary,

Just what I needed to read today....thanks! Even at my age I get frustrated when things don't go according to plan....not in business though, since those things can always be solved,...it's personal issues that frustrate me the most.

Hi Gary, I used not want to go with the flow--my husband's line was always "It is what it is.." Well, that used to really tick me off! LOL  I guess he finally taught me, and changing careers helped, now I go with the flow and you're right life is much happier..

Gary - I have gone with the flow for the last half of my adult life.  Sure makes life easier. We have to come to understand that we cannot be in control of every aspect and the more we try to be the more stress we cause ourselves.
