Pool Safety Video You Won't Forget!

Daren Wright, an Active Rain newbie, had this posted on his blog recently.  It was too amazing a video not to share it.  Since it was a Member's Only post, I couldn't reblog it.  But, I wanted to share the link with you anyway so you can see it for yourselves:

It's not enough to secure your pool with a gate.  Kids can be tenacious when they decide they want something.  I never thought about teaching them what to do in case they actually fall into a pool.  This makes you think, doesn't it?

Oh boy that was pretty scarey.  It is interesting how many babies start learning how to swim at such a young age.  It's amazing what you can teach these little people.

That an extremely powerful video I nearly turned it off as my heart was pounding.  I put up a big fence around my pool last summer before my daughter could even walk, she has been in swim lessons too and she is only 18 months right now, is comfy with the water but can't do that.  I am going to get to work on that.

Heather,

Thanks for the post.

It's very important that young children learn these techniques. Each year there are a number of deaths in private swimming pools.

Wow, Heather, what an amazing video!  I took swim lessons with my children from the time they were 6 months old to get them used to the water and later sent them on to learn how to really swim....but I don't recall them teaching this at all.  Thank you for sharing, the other post should be for everyone, this could save a life!

It's highly recommended that you teach your children to swim at an early age because they learn so quickly and for safety reasons, obviously, Jenny.  We tend to forget what little sponges they are (no pun intended).

Please do, Darren.  My son learned how to swim when we had a pool.  But, I never thought of this.  It's also good advice for adults to learn.

It might be something to mention to your daughter's swim instructor, Clason.  Maybe they do have something like this.  If not, it might be something they should consider.

It's such a scary thing, Brian.  Especially if you have little ones.

I agree, CaroleDaren, the original poster, doesn't have a Rainmaker account and can only post this to Members.  It doesn't appear he had the reblog button activated.  So, I had to repost it here on my blog so everyone would have access.  I thought it was too important not to share.  I'm so glad Daren posted it.  This just never would have occurred to me otherwise.

Heather...That is a wonderful video.  It is so important for young children to learn the technique of getting to their back and floating.  We taught our daughter to swim before she could walk and it helps your piece of mind.  Thanks for posting the moving video even though it gave me an anxiety rush.
