BlackBerry vs IPhone...and the Winner is?

Did you know that 46% of REALTORS® are using a BLACKBERRY and 27% use an IPHONE for their smart phone/mobile device?

At least that's the result of a Quick Poll taken during yesterday's webinar entitled, There is an App for That! presented by Amy Chorew, Technology Specialist.  74% of the attendees gave a response.

The National Association of REALTORS®, through it's REALTOR®  University presented a whole day of FREE webinars.  I was lucky enough to attend all seven and came away with lots of fresh ideas for marketing, technology tools and tax strategies.

Here's another statistic about wireless device/cell phone use among agents/brokers.  According to a 2009 NAR Technology Survey, 85% used a Smartphone in 2009 vs 45% in 2008.

Quite a jump in numbers, don't you think?  We all realize how important it is to be the FIRST agent to respond to a consumer's question.  And being so completely mobile helps us serve all our clients and customers better and faster.

Maybe by the end of this year, all real estate agents will use a smartphone for our "road warrior" needs.  And maybe we should all go out and buy stock in the smartphone market?

Now, if we can get some increases like that for real estate property sales we'll all have a GREAT 2010!

Barbara:  I am not surprised by this stat.  I think that the iPhone tying itself to AT&T was a bad move.  Verizon seems to have the best coverage and utimately, that's what it's all about.  Getting the call.  As for Blackberry Storms, I HATE mine.  Thinking of going in for a different blackberry this weekend.

Hi Barbara, I don't know any (??) Realtors here who don't have a smartphone. Verizon has the best coverage in San Mateo County and Silicon Valley, so I'm not tempted to switch to the iPhone. Chris Ann, I have a Blackberry Curve and it's great!

Would love to have the iPhone but there's no Supra Smart Key application.

Chris,  I have a BlackBerry 9630 World with Verizon Wireless coverage.  So far I love it.  Haven't tried all the Apps available, but it's on my list.  Happy 2010 to you and yours.

Professional treatment of our clients, brings awes

Barbara I have an IPHONE and love it, had it for almost 2 years. Our AT&T is a better network where I live and we also no longer have a hardline.

Barbara, We've been with AT&T for several years and both have palms and love them.  I do want to switch to a blackberry before too long.  It has to be a touch screen though.  I do think the IPhone will end up taking over.  The IPhone in our area isn't able to work with our MLS Keys, so that is probably the case with several areas and that may have a play in these results!

To All,  Won't it be great when the wireless networks have consistent coverage throughout the nation?  Before getting involved with real estate, I worked for Verizon Wireless so can appreciate the business side of our "road warrior" tools.   GE Supra key access is in the works (or so I hear).

Thanks so very much for your comments.

My Blackberry is the best PDA I've had but I miss the touch screen on the Palm. My only criticism of my Blackberry B old is for an old guy like me the screen is too small for Internet use ... but I can get all the up to date sports scores!!

I have the 8310 Curve (BB) and really love it. I do have to place it on the window sill in my office for reception. It has great reception everywhere else. I recommended the Curve to my cousin, C21 agent in Norfolk, and she bought one along with her husband. I mentioned to her to make sure the phone was activated and email set up before she walked out of the store. I had to go back in to get some minor adjustments on mine plus I entered the email manually. As an afterthought, I just bought a Netbook but that is a story for another thread. I upgraded to a 2 gb RAM and love it.

I have a Blackberry Curve as well. I Love it!  Don't have any specific apps that I know of for it, but I don't feel like I need any, either.  Any Blackberry apps that people really feel they need?
