Your 101st Try

"When nothing seems to help, I go and look at a stonecutter hammering away at his rock perhaps a hundred times without as much as a crack showing in it. Yet at the hundred and first blow it will split in two, and I know it was not that blow that did it, but all that had gone before."

Jacob August Riis, Social reformer, journalist, photographer (1849 - 1914)

Yes, it is hard sometimes to know if you’re on the right path.  As you work long hours and weekends trying to “make it happen,” you may come to the end of a Sunday night and think to yourself, “Will this work out for me?  How do I know if this is worth my time?  Am I doing the right things?”

Doubt is a part of the journey.  Faith is working without the assurance of success.  If you honestly look at your business strategy, and feel in your heart that it should yield results in the long term, then you can do no better than continue the journey with your eyes open for opportunity.

Social media and relationship marketing can be deceptive.  “Stats” don’t measure every connection.  Like pool balls that scatter on the break, you are sometimes surprised by how events can impact one another, yielding positive results.

What you are learning today and putting into practice today will pay off on that “101st blow” that Jacob Riis talks about.  One thing will not be the cause of your success… it will be a hundred small things pointing in the right direction.

Give your ideas time, be disciplined, and give yourself patience.  The break through can come at any moment.

Great point of view.  If you can stay focused and you have done your homework, it will happen.

Thanks, David.  It's very easy to get tied to "instant feedback" sometimes, isn't it?
