A Haiti UPDATE and a winter wonderland in Central Va-7" and it's still falling

Services for Real Estate Pros with Sharon Lee's Virtual Assistance

picGood Morning Everybody-I hope you all had a great week. Mine has been very busy but productive with only one late night. No collections this weekend but plan on one for the following weekend. The whereabouts I don't know yet.

We have had lots of folks locally collect for us. Individuals, churches, schools and stores. A couple of weeks ago we had a collection taken at the church I attend and we took up a total of $49,000 in monetary donations.

One savvy store vendor took this opportunity to sell more of their product and sell they did. They are about 10 different, I believe stores in the surrounding areas and so I got nominated to count and box them up. In two shipments from one of the stores alone we had 1888 8-packs.

That is a lot of crackers. On Friday we got another load from another store which will probably have about the same amount. So first part of the week I will be again knee deep in crackers. One temp fellow called me the cracker lady.<SMILE>

We have sent about 2 million dollars worth of supplies into Haiti thus far. The outpouring has not onlybeen  in the local community but all across the country. Between food, water, baby supplies, assorted medical etc. Last week we sent a plane load of supplies worth $100,000 to Port-au-Prince. Pics below:

Among the generous donors was a church in Raleigh N.C. donated 8000# worth of supplies. They collected medical supplies, food, water, baby products, blankets, clothes, and lots more. Pics below at their warehouse.

On Friday we received a donation from an organization(don't know the name at the moment) of 66 brand new wheelchairs. There are a lot of injuries that require the patients to recovery using a wheelchairs. In addition we have received several gaylords worth of walkers, crutches, portable toilets from different donors.

This outpouring of supplies is so wonderful and makes my heart so happy. A few minor drawbacks for me are dry cracked bleeding hands, my body hurts a lot, less sleep, less Active Rain visits but that is nothing compared to what the folks in Haiti are dealing with. So I thank you for all your support and friendship. I am blessed and we are as Americans. <WARM SMILES>

Now on this Saturday the 30th of January, another storm has come to Va. It has already dropped 7" of snow and that was about a hour ago and it is supposed to continue snowing thru mid afternoon. Some areas are supposed to get 20". I hope not us. It is a light snow which is better than last time. So maybe they will actually clean the sidewalks properly. Time will tell. Below are pics I took this morning outside my apt bldg.

Front yard, parking lot and road in front of apt

Parking lot to the right (my vehicle is on the left all buried)

Parking lot to the left

Measured snow in front yard

My V.A. job is also increasing in it's workload so while it snows outside I will be spending the day inside sitting in this chair trying to get a lot done.  Hopefully by Monday they will clear the parking lot, sidewalks and main roads. They didn't do a good job at all last time. Got all my shopping, laundry and other chores done so I didn't have to try to get out until Monday. I am most thankful and grateful to be busy and enjoying what I am doing. I have two jobs I love. If ONLY the body loved them <SMILE>

Have a great weekend everyone. Miss you and hope you are doing well as we come to the close of the first month of 2010.  <WARM SMILES> to ALL.

Thanks for the update you and your group are doing for Haiti..  It is so great to see the generosity of so many.  We also got some snow last night...I am ready for spring.

A suggestion while at work...use a good handcream and then put gloves on...may help the hands.

You look like a snowed in buys cracker lady.  A young woman I've known all her life, who is a young nurse got to Haiti today and will be there until February 8, 2009.  In fact, Friday morning before she left someone lost control of her car and slid head on in to Amanda and totaled her car, yet she still drove (in a rental) to Jackson Mississippi and flew out although the airport in Memphis was closed.  I'm proud of both of you.  Those who give their time and effort give so much more than money.

Sharon:  It's amazing that you do as much as you do.  Where do you find the energy?  As for the snow, it really took us by surprise up in Northern VA.  We were told to expect a dusting.  We're getting about 8 inches.

Hi Sharon!  Glad to hear you are doing well and the collections for Haiti are awesome!  Love your snow pictures.......we missed it, but are definitely having some winter weather.  It is cold, windy and dreary!  In a few days our own little groundhog, Birmingham Bill (who resides at the Birmingham Zoo) will make his decision on whether Spring will come sooner or later.....

Hi Sally-Hope your 2010 is great and thank you for visiting. <SMILE>

Hi Tony-You are most welcome and thanks for the visit. <SMILE>

Hi Caron-You are most welcome and thanks for the visit.<SMILE>

Hi Rebecca-I too am ready for Spring. I haven't enjoyed this winter. I do use handcream and lather them up good at night and wear gloves at night but they continue to crack. I have tried wearing them at work but I get real warm. Hope you are doing well. <SMILE>

Hi Tammy-I am glad your friend is OK. There is a great need in Haiti. I hope your friend is crisis trained. It is a tough place to be. I enjoy my work so much. Hope you are doing well. <SMILE>

Hi Chris Ann-My energy many evenings is pretty low. Sometimes I eat dinner, talk to Mom, do a little VA work and get ready for the following day. Hope you are doing well my friend. <SMILE>

Hi Ann-They are indeed awesome. Everyday we get donations. The generosity of Americans is awesome. I hope that groundhog tells us Spring is coming soon. The wind here is fierce sometimes. It makes it even colder. Hope you are doing well. <SMILE>

Hello Dear Sharon, it sounds like you are working your fingers to the bone!  I love your new title "the cracker lady" LOL  I'm so surprised about the amount of different types of items that are donated, truly mindboggling all the things that are needed.  I admire you for doing so much and for keeping us posted.

I love your snowy  pictures, and hope that the weather and traveling will be much better for you on Monday.  Have a great rest of the weekend  "cracker lady"  :-)

Good Morning Mary-Guess you like that nickname that I was given. <SMILE> I do love my jobs. It is a winterwonderland out there.  Sidewalks are not cleaned, car is buried and NO shovel and the back is on a tear. But life is GOOD. Nice to chat with you my friend. Have a wonderful Sunday. <SMILE>

Gary-Maybe so but when there is much to be done that is easier said than done. Thanks for the comment. <SMILE>

Hi Toula-Thank you. I am working all next week as well. Just got to get out of the parking lot tomorrow. We are supposed to get another storm this weekend but I think it will be a wintry mix which is worse. We will see. Have a great week my friend. <SMILE>

Sharon, Hi, I don't know how I missed your wonderful post.  The time and effort you are putting into helping is incredible....I know you will be blessed many times over for it!  You're certainly what I think of as an Earth Angel.

The snow is pretty....as long as it's not here :)  I hope you enjoy it since you don't see it that often!

Hi Carole-I am already blessed by it. It is very much in my blood now. Thank you for the compliment but I never consider myself an angel just a person doing their best to be a good person. LOL on your snow comment. I understand that completely. Wish it wasn't here. I have had enough of this snow especially since they don't clean it very well. Wouldn't mind it if they did. OH well that is winter with snow in the south. Have a great Sunday my friend. Nice to see your beautiful face this morning. <SMILE>

Sharon, that's a great thing you're doing - helping Haiti.  Those poor people were really hit hard.  God bless you for that.

As far as the snow back east goes - I don't mean to make light of it because I know it's caused a lot of problems.  However, my wife and I had a bit of a chuckle over the news coverage last night.  The weather channel pretty much ignores us if we get less than 3 feet of snow!  :-)

Keep up the great work you're doing!

Hi Mike-I truly love the work I am doing to help the people in Haiti. The snow is minor compared to NY where I lived all but the last 4 yrs where we measure snow in feet not inches so YES, it is a chuckle for sure but the problem here is they don't have the manpower to clean it so it just sits which is actually worse than the snow in the north in that they don't clean it efficiently and in a timely manner. In the north they know how to drive in it and it is cleaned well. Have a great Sunday. <SMILE>
