Good Morning Everybody-I hope you all had a great week. Mine has been very busy but productive with only one late night. No collections this weekend but plan on one for the following weekend. The whereabouts I don't know yet.
We have had lots of folks locally collect for us. Individuals, churches, schools and stores. A couple of weeks ago we had a collection taken at the church I attend and we took up a total of $49,000 in monetary donations.
One savvy store vendor took this opportunity to sell more of their product and sell they did. They are about 10 different, I believe stores in the surrounding areas and so I got nominated to count and box them up. In two shipments from one of the stores alone we had 1888 8-packs.
That is a lot of crackers. On Friday we got another load from another store which will probably have about the same amount. So first part of the week I will be again knee deep in crackers. One temp fellow called me the cracker lady.<SMILE>
We have sent about 2 million dollars worth of supplies into Haiti thus far. The outpouring has not onlybeen in the local community but all across the country. Between food, water, baby supplies, assorted medical etc. Last week we sent a plane load of supplies worth $100,000 to Port-au-Prince. Pics below:
Among the generous donors was a church in Raleigh N.C. donated 8000# worth of supplies. They collected medical supplies, food, water, baby products, blankets, clothes, and lots more. Pics below at their warehouse.
On Friday we received a donation from an organization(don't know the name at the moment) of 66 brand new wheelchairs. There are a lot of injuries that require the patients to recovery using a wheelchairs. In addition we have received several gaylords worth of walkers, crutches, portable toilets from different donors.
This outpouring of supplies is so wonderful and makes my heart so happy. A few minor drawbacks for me are dry cracked bleeding hands, my body hurts a lot, less sleep, less Active Rain visits but that is nothing compared to what the folks in Haiti are dealing with. So I thank you for all your support and friendship. I am blessed and we are as Americans. <WARM SMILES>
Now on this Saturday the 30th of January, another storm has come to Va. It has already dropped 7" of snow and that was about a hour ago and it is supposed to continue snowing thru mid afternoon. Some areas are supposed to get 20". I hope not us. It is a light snow which is better than last time. So maybe they will actually clean the sidewalks properly. Time will tell. Below are pics I took this morning outside my apt bldg.
Front yard, parking lot and road in front of apt
Parking lot to the right (my vehicle is on the left all buried)
Parking lot to the left
Measured snow in front yard
My V.A. job is also increasing in it's workload so while it snows outside I will be spending the day inside sitting in this chair trying to get a lot done. Hopefully by Monday they will clear the parking lot, sidewalks and main roads. They didn't do a good job at all last time. Got all my shopping, laundry and other chores done so I didn't have to try to get out until Monday. I am most thankful and grateful to be busy and enjoying what I am doing. I have two jobs I love. If ONLY the body loved them <SMILE>
Have a great weekend everyone. Miss you and hope you are doing well as we come to the close of the first month of 2010. <WARM SMILES> to ALL.
