Speechless Sunday: Supreme Court Building - Lower Manhattan

By
Real Estate Agent

Lower Manhattan

I received notice that I had to report to NY Supreme Court last week or receive a $1000 fine. It turns out I didn't have to report for jury duty, I only had to report to find out if I'm qualified. I'm qualified and will be hearing from them in 3 to 4 months. I served 5 years ago. 6 months after I served they changed the qualification from every 4 years to every 6 years. According to the county clerk I am qualified this year because the 6 year exemption was passed after I served.

I also received a qualification questionnaire from United States District Court. Hopefully NY state will call me first. The 9/11 terrorist trial may take place in US District Court Southern District of NY. Both Court houses are in lower Manhattan.

The Real Estate Board of New York (REBNY) is spearheading an effort to move the trial from lower Manhattan. Lower Manhattan’s business district is vital to our city’s economy and quality of life for all New Yorkers. The heightened security for the 9/11 trial will burden the area’s economy and greatly impose on the lives of its residents. The trial needs to be moved away from this large, vital urban center to a less populated location.

I guess you will have to report for jury duty, good luck with that.

Mitch, I just received a notice to report to jury duty.  And you know, I never ever get picked for a freakin' jury!  I come out of it all feeling so rejected!

Eric Holder has motives for what he is doing to protect terrorists that defy logic.  When things defy logic, I look for ulterior motives.

In this case and the case of the underware bomber, the motives are not difficult to figure.

Tim, Thanks hopefully it's only a few days.

Pat, I never got picked when I worked in Television. Last time, as soon as I said I'm a real estate agent the assistant DA wanted me. Good choice because we turned in a guilty verdict. I even picked up a new client on jury duty. Great networking opportunity!

Lenn, I received an email update from the President of our real estate board informing us that the White House ordered the Justice Department to look for alternative locations for the terrorist trial. We have our motives too. Our security, our local economy and real estate transactions in the area.

Mitchel, That's a phenominal picture you captured.  I could not believe my ears when they announced Obama had decided to have the trials here and I'm SO THANKFUL that they were ordered to be moved.  Aside from the expense I kept thinking of the families in New York....

Hi Carole, Thanks my iPhone takes pretty good shots. If it must be in NYC there are several small islands in NY harbor that IMO would be better venues. Rikers Island (prison) Randalls island (mental facility) and Governors Island (military base from 1776-1996)

Mitchell - I agree with you.  Lower Manhattan is the last place where those trials should take place.  I would suggest a quick trial on a cargo plane circling the neighborhood of the accused.  If they are judged not guilty, land at the nearest airstrip and release them with apologies.  If they are judged guilty, no need to land.  Just show them the door.

Mitchel, Great photo from an iPhone and what an interesting building.  One of the perks for getting older is as of this year I no longer need to report for jury duty, I never did like the duty thing.
