San Diego's Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints - An Icon in the La Jolla Area

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is an icon in the San Diego area.

La Jolla's Church of Latter Day Saint's

Located along the 5 freeway, it is impossible for the Church of Latter Day Saints to not grab your attention as you drive north or south in La Jolla, but it can also be seen from many of the area hilltops, including Mt. Soledad in La Jolla.

While I have seen it countless times from a distance, I have often wanted to stop by and take photos, but never took the time to do so. Today was the day, as I was showing La Jolla condos right across the street.

It is a stunning piece of architecture, as you can see from the pics.

Enjoy some other views of the Temple.

I am always amazed when I drive by this.  It is rather other-worldly.  I certainly have not been that close.  Great picture, Jeff.

Jane - it was really cool to be right outside the gates, since I have drive by more times than I can count. I remember one from along the highway on the east coast outside of DC, just not sure where. At night it is incredible.

Rita - well California certainly has a broad range of interesting architecture, and this ranks right up there.

So next time you are driving from La to SD I hope you will have tiome to visit, even if briefly.

Hi Jeff,

What beautiful pictures. They are outstanding. What camera?. I am still unpacking the D-90 and getting the needed accessories. After all the house re-plumbing, I wanted to be sure it was packed and away from the construction dust. Not realizing I didn't have a camera bag big enough to hold it and the requisite filters I would need I figured in time I will unpack and get to the taking photos part.I also need a new tripod that supports more weight. Then a light attachment and the list goes on.

Maybe I could learn to do weddings and make some of the $$ back, LMAO. Seems one needs special equipment for a sunset or wedding party.

I must admit that the colors and the composition of what you have done here certainly sets the bar pretty high. I am impressed!

PS, The first photo would make a great San Diego post card.

Jeff, that is a remarkable building!  It's so white!  And the steeples are some of the pointiest I have ever seen. Great photo and wideo! I wonder what the inside looks like?

Maria - well it was closed at the time but would love to check out the inside, too. Perhaps some day.

Paddy - glad you enjoyed it. I would like to be in front of it as the sun is setting as I suspoect that wiew would be equally gorgeous.

Michele - it is faily new, being built in the early 1990s.

Hi Jeff ~ Your picture takes the breath away - absolutely stunning. And it's not often that a 1990s building has that kind of impact.

Jeff that is one beautiful HUGE Church.  I can't even begin to imagine what it cost to build that.

Hi Jeff, I had to laugh when I read your comment back to Maria. The mornas has very strict rules and they do no allow visitors to see the inside. They did have open house when it was first constructed. We can have a conversation about that one day. What I know is actually very little but it is interesting. Traditions are a wonderful thing for some and others may be uninterested in them.

Jeff, their big church in this area is also pretty stunning, and can be seen from the Beltway.  It looks sort of like Cinderella's castle, and is totally stunning with a clear blue sky.
