Wednesday Wonders- Always something new in Apex

By
Real Estate Agent with Raleigh Cary Realty

Taking a walk in my neighborhood in Apex, North Carolina, the other day (when it finally got warm) I passed the "horse farm" down the road.  Surprise! There were now 2 "donkeys' in there with the horses.

What is the difference between a donkey, a mule, and an jackass anyway? I guess people never act like donkeys!  They can be stubborn as a mule, or acting like an a****, but is there any analogy to a donkey?

Just to keep this blog family friendly, I'm going to refer to these 2 cuties as donkeys.

The mother donkey was very friendly, but as all mothers in the animal kingdom, very protective of  her baby.  She let us pet her baby only after she had checked us out first.

Hi Linda, they are definitely donkeys, and that little baby is so cute!  The jack(ass) is a male donkey, and the female(ass) is called a jenny.  I can't think of any analogy for a donkey hmmmmmm.  Anyway mules are sterile - (a  cross between a female horse and a jackass) Aren't you glad you assked?? LOL  Great photo Linda!

Mike- Yep, they're donkeys, but if you read Mary's commnent, they're also a**es!

Carole- yes, she was protective. Even something so big, can look little and cute. Thanks for commenting.

Mary- Did you Wiki that just to let me know, or is that common knowledge in Red Feather Lakes? !!   I thought that mules were the cross bread, but didn't know the rest.  So obviously this donkey must be a female, so the horse that was in the pasture with them couldn't be the father? And they couldn't have a "mule" together?  I thought if anyone could think of an analogy, it would be you. thanks for stopping in tonight.

Oh that's a "horse of a different color" LOL  If the mother was  donkey or mule(because the males mules are sterile but in some cases the females can have offspring)  and the horse was the dad then I think they are called something else - but I would have to wiki that to find the answer! LOL

Linda ~ They are so cute.  Looks like you live in a great neighborhood to walk around in.  Winter snow is pretty but I want SPRING already.  We got another snow yesterday and its like slush this morning and cold out.  Won't be going into the office until I see some sun or melting.

Mary- I continue to be amazed at your wide spread knowledge. My husband and I are on a mission to become Naturalists so that we can work in Alaska when we retire. We're doing this mainly by watching the Discovery channel. But now I'll have to Wike the donkey thing. (i already told him your info about the mules being sterile. He's a city boy and had no idea!).

Penny- I too love the horse farms, one of my favorite things about living where I do.

June-  You are my kind of girl!  I am so ready for spring! Can't sell houses in this weather.

Hi Linda, I would love to visit you when you retire in Alaska!  I used to be a city girl, but learned a lot from others once I left the city:-)
