This past weekend my wife, youngest daughter and I visited the "Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History" in Kennesaw, Georgia. I'll admit right off the bat, I'm a history nut, so I knew beforehand I was going to enjoy the visit. What surprised me was how enjoyable it was for the rest of the family and how we felt as if we were almost taking a trip back in time.

Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History in KennesawThe Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History have put together three impressive permanent collections and in addition is also a member of the prestigious Smithsonian Affiliations Program.

The Museum offered a wide range of exhibits, including:

  • A glimpse into the daily lives of soldiers during the Civil War
  • A reproduction of a turn-of-the-century locomotive factory (and)
  • An exciting depiction of the Civil War's Great Locomotive Chase

Additionally, as a member of the Smithsonian Affiliations Program, the Museum maintains a special gallery that features traveling exhibits from the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES) as well as other sources and will be changed every few months.

Tony.... I love old war history stuff like this. You would be surprised at what you can learn from these little museums. Just as you mentioned, a glimpse into a soldier's life is what we all take for granted. thanks for sharing this.
