Getting the word out!

For those of you that remember Ft Lewis or McChord Air Force Base, you are really showing your age. As of 2/01/2010, the new title is Joint Base Lewis-McChord.

Joint Base Lewis-McChord has begun its history as of 10 a.m. Monday the 1st of February when Col. Thomas H. Brittain cases the colors of Fort Lewis’ U.S. Army Garrison and unfurls those of the Joint Base Garrison.

Brittain and Command Sgt. Maj. Matthew D. Barnes performed the ceremony at JBLM Headquarters, Building 1010, at the intersection of Liggett and Kaufman avenues. The new joint-base headquarters will over watch an intersection that links approaches to North Fort, now called JBLM North, main post, now JBLM Main, and the DuPont Gate. McChord Air Force Base will be known as JBLM McChord Field.

My father served at McChord Air Force Base and retired there in the late 1960s. I, on the other hand served at Ft Lewis after being drafted during Vietnam. The faces are the same but the names will be different.

I am still here serving my clients, who serve to protect us. Rest assured that when you need a real estate professional, I will be here for you and your family…

Hi Paul, I too served at Fort Lewis for a few months in late 69 and 70 on my return from Vietnam. I was teaching land mine warfare and remember having trainees out in 4 inches of snow down on their hands and knees probing with bayonets for mines. Not quite the right conditions for those headed to Nam, but discipline is always good. Thanks for the memory.

Consolidating the bases makes sense. Now if only the CIA, FBI and homeland security could learn to work together.

Hi Paul, I remember McChord AFB. It was one of the debarkation points for Viet Nam back in the 60's.
