KCA Snow Related Information - February 5 - 7

According to Alert Montgomery, a major winter storm likely this weekend. Potential snow accumulations exceeding 12" for the area with 20" possible in some locations!!! The National Weather Service has issued a WINTER STORM WATCH for Montgomery County through Saturday evening. Widespread 12"+ snowfall likely with some areas possibly receiving 20".

Given the predicted amount of snowfall, please keep the following in mind:

Clubhouse

Given the predicted snowfall amounts and timeframe, please note that the Clubhouse will be closed by 7 PM on Friday, February 5 (please call before arriving to be sure a staff member is here).

The Clubhouse will be closed on Saturday, February 6, all day.

Please call the Clubhouse on Sunday, February 7, before arriving to make sure it is open. We will aim to have the Clubhouse open by noon on Sunday.

Fire Hydrants

Please remember to keep fire hydrants that may be located in front of your home clear of snow in the event of an emergency.

Sidewalks

Per the City of Gaithersburg, please remember that residents are responsible for clearing sidewalks abutting their property.  This is often easier to accomplish if done during or immediately following the weather event.

If you would like to hire a local teen to shovel walks and/or driveways or would like to help a local teen achieve service hours, please call the Clubhouse (301.948.2071) for a list of individuals and contact information who wish to be contacted (please call for this information before 5 pm on Friday or email generalmanager@kentlandsusa.com).

Stay safe as you shovel snow.  Pace yourself. Shoveling early and often is safer than trying to shovel out all at once, especially if the snow is wet and heavy as predicted.  When driving, stay alert for cars and pedestrians emerging from behind high snow banks.

Shovels

According to an informal poll by the KCA:

Lowes is out of shovels and might have received a shipment tomorrow (Friday).

Kmart is out shovels and might have a shipment in on Tuesday.

Home Depot is out of shovels (but the Pro Desk did note that they think the store in West Frederick might have some) and are not sure as to when they will receive more.

City of Gaithersburg Reminders (from Britta Monaco, Public Information Director)

Please cooperate by moving cars off of ALL roadways on Friday morning.  This will allow road crews to remove snow more thoroughly and quickly.

Also, residents are responsible for clearing sidewalks abutting their property.  This is often easier to accomplish if done during or immediately following the weather event.

Mandatory removal of cars from snow emergency routes will be in effect when the Gaithersburg City Manager issues a snow emergency.  Failure to comply could result in ticketing or towing.

Snow emergency information will be posted on the City's website at www.gaithersburgmd.gov and will be issued via the Alert Gaithersburg emergency notification system.  To register visit http://alert.gaithersburgmd.gov
